Just found out this morning that Putin is only 5 feet 5 inches tall officially, so could be even smaller.

Does explain a lot and what little chance taller people have or reasoning with him.

Deffo need the Chinese on board to mediate.

So potentially this entire **** show is down to 'Little Man Syndrome'?

Wonder what Biden means when he said in his State of the Union speech “ You have no idea what’s coming.” Seeing as the West won’t do anything militarily, is there much more that can be done? Not clear what further economic sanctions there could be, beyond what is already in place.

He's going to unleash all the alien stuff at Area 51...

There are rumours going round that he is ill or immuno-compromised which may explain some of the bizarre social distancing he has been doing. That or he's read too much of the Big Coronavirus thread.

According to something I read, he has Parkinson's, although I don't know if that would explain things or not.

No, it would not. He's always been like this. It's just that the places he was attacking were far enough away for us to ignore him until now.

Agreed he's always been like this. I know Parkinsons won't turn someone into a psychopath. What I meant was, his change in appearance (looking heavier, more 'puffy' as someone described him) and the rambling unhinged speeches he's been delivering recently..

Interesting article by the Royal United Services Institute (the UK’s leading defence and security think tank) on why the Russian Air Force haven't turned up to the fight (hint - they're a bit censored and out of bombs):

If anyone plays hearts of iron you'd recognise the problems the Russians have - n00b problems.
    what does that mean Rick?

sorry - so you're now comparing this to a computer game?

i suppose its all like COD on the grpund as well then?

Rumours that even at big discounts at spot price there are no buyers for Russian oil.

Naptha prices above all other cracks are surging which will feed into the price of plastics.

Trivial over here but only for so long - inflation is gonna get sharper across the world.

I'm thinking that could be fair. On one condition. They can only be neutral if they publicly renounce their Russian citizenship and become citizens elsewhere. Monaco probably.

There is an IOC distinction between teams and individuals. The FIA and the UCI and the LTA have all taken the same stance as a result. You will also find Russian football players playing for European club teams in uefa and fifa competition I expect.

I don't think this is any different, frankly, to Russian employees in any other profession working outside of Russia.

The only comparison I can think of is S. Africa and I think we banned national teams not individuals

You are right when you say Russians and not Russia. Where it gets harder is when you have supermaxi yachts racing in international competitions under flags such as Monaco when the money paying for them is dirty money at worst. At best from oligarchs that have done little to exert influence to the betterment of Russia and it's people.

China will be watching with interest as on a global world if you don't sign up to a rules based order then why should you get to profit from global trade. I would argue you can't have global trade outside a rules based order. Where for example countries agree to basics such as not committing illegal acts in others territories or maybe even just obeying boundaries on a map. It's not hard.

Like the Russian authorities would allow that. They're sending people at the border back home if they seem like they might be making a run for it.

We should be giving individual Russians with skills visas more readily, not making them stay in Russia.
