Not sure if I'm reading that right as I seem to be seeing it differently to you. Aren't they just saying if you're here already we're going to let you stay longer? I don't think it is anything about who they are prepared to allow in going forward.
They’re announcing this because they’re not announcing what they should be, which is visa waivers for all Ukrainians and routes to help refugees.

Are they or are you just making assumptions?
    As of yesterday.

"The UK has stopped accepting visa applications from Ukrainians stuck in the country, meaning there is no safe and legal route for them to seek asylum in Britain unless they have British relatives."

More could be done to help.
Fair enough, in that case I agree it's a disgrace although with this Government you wouldn't expect anything else. Hopefully we'll take our share of refugees but I won't hold my breath.
Poland - Poland - is doing more for war refugees than us at the moment.
I would expect that to be the case at this juncture.
They were notably less welcoming to the last bunch of refugees that turned up. I get that Ukraine is their next door neighbour but it's still a notable contrast.
It sounds as if you think that two wrongs would be the more appropriate option.
Not what I meant at all. Just that we could do better with regard to people wanting to get out of Ukraine. Otherwise, raising the 🇺🇦 over Parliament is a bit of a hollow gesture.
I didn’t comment upon the UK’s response, just Poland’s. I agree about this lightly up being a token gesture.
But I think you knew that.

No one on here that I've seen.
Of course your Man Utd haven't taken any state money from Putin have they?

    No. No one on here.

But this has nothing to do with football partisanship. Good grief.

Looks like it's coming but have the details been decided?

The view from the corporate treasury perspective is that this is not fatal as cross border payments can be made by alternative means, but it definitely makes life more difficult for Russia. Not enough on its own but I think it should be done.

Germany has only agreed to a limited ban. Every other country has agreed to a complete ban including Cyprus and Italy after chats with Zelenskyy.

Still that unused pipeline is not being used...

We seem to be misunderstanding one another, so for clarity, the reason I compared our response with regards to accepting refugees to Poland was that they were recently known for refusing to accept refugees who arrived through Belarus. That's all.

To have been discussing a possible invasion for weeks but seemingly not have given any thought to the possibility of refugees wanting to come to the UK is not good enough. The actual f***ing immigration minister suggesting people make use of the seasonal worker scheme as an escape route from a war just beggars belief.

Well we know what US and UK have been suggesting which is everything, and we know the Germans won’t stop buying their gas so it’ll be everything bar that more or less.

Yes I wondered if that was true.

As mentioned above, knocking them out of SWIFT doesn't make cross border payments impossible, it makes them more difficult and costly.

So other than China all the assets in that list are frozen.

Does anyone know what actually happens to all the people arrested in Russia at the anti-war protests. Are they all banged up indefinitely in a jail somewhere or do they let them out the next morning?

Some will be beaten up and released others will spend several years in prison

Get let out. Sometimes they give them a criminal record.

FIFA are going to dance on the head of a pin with this. No one will play Russia in WC qualifiers.

As I sit here now my guess is that Russia will qualify by default, because, well it's FIFA and FIFA are politically neutral and morally non-existent. And this will create a huge headache in Qatar, which is a sports washing exercise itself, because the conflict will still be going on.

True story my grandfather played football for Holland but got dropped because he refused to play against the nazis (before the war)

Spent the entire occupation in hiding and so gave up going to uni.

Got the news clippings somewhere. This “sports washing” stuff isn’t new
