makes for interesting reading. Unsure of the poster's credentials but he writes alot - he is clearly based near Ukraine / Russia / Poland.0 -
Interesting the Sergey Surovokin aka 'General Armageddon' has been detained for nearly a week and is (or was) a Wager 'VIP' whatever that is. Not sure if we'll see him again."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Was chatting to a former soldier who had an unusual opinion on the war. He thinks Russia won it last year. They control the wealth generating parts of Ukraine and Ukraine's allies will eventually be forced to negotiate. Ukraine will end up being run by gangs. It's a bleak take. He has been there.0

No idea if this long thread is an accurate assessment, but it seems believable, regarding the pace of what's happening.

I think the ending is a little optimistic, sadly.0

The fog of war.
If the positions were reversed and we were this far into a Russian counter-offensive with so little to show for it then we would be having a party.
The more you look at that map the more important Mariupol looks0 -

Yes, it does feel like a rather positive spin.
"it's OK they're not pushing the enemy back because they're doing x"
yeah OK but at some point they're gonna have to, and attacking in winter is doubly difficult.0 -
Prigozhin had a meeting with Putin after the whole mutiny thing.0

I've no idea if I'd be any good in a war, but at least I wouldn't be this bad...

They hit the Kerch Strait bridge again... might start a bit of panic in Crimea.

Seems it's the Russia-Crimea carriageway that's been taken out, which will make resupplying troops in Crimea more challenging.

Well done Ukraine on taking out that Russian tanker:

450kg of TNT is a fair amount of explosive, must have been a big bang.

I'm not sure what's going on there at the mo (is anyone?), so, in the meantime, a good return from one hand grenade...

Was he actually still alive before the flight? I can't believe he was volutarily getting on any plane.0

It will get to the point though where the best way to protect one's self from assassination is to assassinate.
Put it this way, Putin is 70 now, right? Is he going to live until he is 75? 73? 72 even?0 -
Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. Wonder if any Wagner types will try to avenge his death?"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

It’s been a good day.
He’s dead.
A Russian pilot defected to Ukraine with his nice helicopter.
Ukraine managed to hit Russia with a couple of drones.
Then this…

Yeah, my ignorant/tangential reading is that Ukraine is chipping away on multiple fronts, getting a bit more daring about behind-the-lines strikes (especially Crimea), and is softening everything up, bit by bit, without any big landmark offences.
I was reading a Twitter thread (Hertling, I think) suggesting that it's the kind of scenario where 'unexpected' breakthroughs suddenly happen, though I guess that approaching winter will slow things down, and it could stagnate somewhat. But who knows? I certainly don't.0 -
