Assuming that reporting to be correct, it sounds like the Ruskies didn't stand much of a chance against a switched-on adversary: loads of them in the same building; lots of live ammunitions stored there; using their mobiles en masse. Boom.

One of the corrosive things is feeling some sense of 'justice' at the mass loss of life of what must be untrained conscripts, but until Putin changes course, I think it's the natural reaction.

Unfortunately this is war. And from a Ukrainian point of view I'm sure few tears will be shed.

suppose the same goes for the women and children the Russians are firing cruise missiles at.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of fellas tbh.

untrained or not - and these were trained - you're still in uniform in someone else's country in the middle of a war you started illegally.

Yes, it's not that it's not entirely justified (and apparently well executed), it's just the effect that war has on ones own reaction to death which is the issue, even though I realise it's unavoidable when people start wars, and other people justly defend themselves.

Not liking the fact that I can kinda inwardly 'celebrate' the killing of Putin's war fodder.

The story about Abramovich and others seemingly being poisoned is quite worrying. I also hadn't realised he'd been involved in peace negotiations

Nothing to do with Putin is he oh no.

He’s just your regular aluminium magnate billionaire 🙄🙄
Have you read anything about these talks, because it doesn't come across like you have.

If I turned up to conduct peace negotiations I’d be told to p!ss off.

There’s a reason why they will talk to Abramovic.

It’s not because he’s a businessman who loves his London football team, is it?

You're a nobody so of course not.
But if you were a billionaire affected by the sanctions and considered someone who just might be able to effect regime change, then just maybe the Ukrainians would speak to you.
But you clearly know more than Frank Gardner.
To bring this discussion back up to date, https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/06/roman-abramovich-trusts-transfer-leak-russia-sanctions

It turns out he either knew the date before the invasion, or it’s Putin’s money.

Gotta love the role the offshore finance industry play in this. Shysters.

    Mega stuff! Thankyou very much!

Stuff like this is randomnly quite common - malfunctioning ordinance, stuff not reaching timiing distances, soft impact, sheer luck, etc.

I've got this mad, mad, mad respect for doctors: I think they are absolutely amazing: stuff like this bigs them up even more to me.

I'm trying to work out how a grenade ended up in his chest to start with. I assume it was a rocket propelled variant rather than a hand thrown version. If it was hand thrown the Russian soldier should get signed up by a Major League baseball team!

In other news, looks like Surovikin has been demoted and its the turn of Gerasimov to fail to make any progress. Whether this will change the tactics of bombing civilian infrastructure who knows.

And our Ukrainian house guest will be moving on at the end of March. Mrs. 666 feels that she needs a break and tbh we are a bit sceptical about her really being in need of being here, given that she is going back to Ukraine for 3 weeks next month to see her family and one of her mates who has just had a baby...

House guests moving on seems to be quite a common thing atm tbh, people feeling that after 6 months residency they should be able to settle by themselves, increased costs of people living with you affecting cost of living crisis, etc, etc.

fired from underslung grenade launcher in this case.

strapped to tinny rail on rifle. close quarters stuff. normally quite effective. in this case, moderately inconvenient.

RPG is that Soviet stuff made famous by Johnny, Indy and Terry.

Tbh I reckon we are washing our faces on the costs as the council chips in £400 a month. Its more that Mrs. 666 feels she'll have had enough by time the 6 months are up and the point that real refugees don't go on 3 week holidays back to the place they are supposed to be fleeing.

they both like a nice bit of indiscriminate bombing, breaches of LOAC, turning blind eye to civpop cas.

essentially they don't care what they levrl to meet end aim.

tbh, moderacy isn't a talking point slthough it actually wouldn't be a bad point (ie they aren't succeeding with current tactics, so why carry on? sll they are foing is wasting limited resources) they should be looking for someone with a different tactical approach.

they're actually not worried about civpop issues because they think they can bomb Ukr. into submission, but this isn't working.

ideologically they want it, militarily they won't admit failure politically it will be a nightmare.
