I always thought the best thing for a pork pie was to dig a hole put the pie in it, fill the hole back in. Then put across by it and say a prayer.

Do they get their wild boar from the Surrey Hills?!
Dunno. I think our local butcher buys it in from a farm in Hampshire. Not sure if the pub buys from the butcher or direct. The butcher - Scott's - is a bit of a local institution. People queue round the green for hours to pick up their Christmas roasts.

Yes. Wild boar is a species. They don't need to literally be wild, although with those tusks I'd treat with a degree of respect.

No, they're just wild boar. Like the Asterix books.

Don't get all strung* up Mr Trumpet, B - you are the one seeking order and compartmentalisation.
I would much rather divergence and creative counterpoint than military brass band.

One of the butcher's local to me has similar queues on Xmas eve when people are allowed to pick up their pre Xmas orders. If you are a risk taker, by around 4pm, everyone has picked up their turkey and any left are sold off cheap! Last year my mate picked up four organic Norfolk bronze turkeys for £50 in total. They should have been £70 each!

    very good point well presented.

or, to that effect, is there a tame boar?

A boar is an adult male domesticated pig (Sus scrofa domesticus). Wild boar are a separate species (Sus scrofa). Most Wild boar are also wild but some are farmed (but not tame).

Farming of Wild boar requires a special license under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.

Encountered a wild boar when descending through the woods on Monte Morrone, Abruzzo. A pretty sizable beast but it took off quickly as soon as it spotted us.

I believe they were reintroduced to the region after previously been hunted to extinction there.

Very much on the loose in my part of France, not least as they are favourite targets for the many hunters, when they're not shooting each others or members of the public.

I met a small group of them one time, in the dark, when walking up the valley, but thankfully on seeing my torch they headed off elsewhere.

They do. Sad ones. Pirozhki, aka ‘Meat Hand Pies’. They don’t contain hand meat (maybe they do) but they’re a f@cked up pie/pastie hybrid that contains pork or beef.

He chose to. One for himself and he gave the other three to relatives. No idea if they already had turkeys or not. I assumed he had discussed this with them beforehand and they all took the risk of not getting a turkey!

I turned up at the coffee shop at the end of my traditional Xmas eve ride to find him sitting there with four huge boxed turkeys!

So in effect by waiting until the last minute he was able to get a turkey for £50. Think I'll stick with Sainsbury's.
