Is it time to warn Russia of the unpredictable consequences of invading a country such as Ukraine. Does Russia really think NATO will back down when threatened by unpredictable consequences. It reeks of desperation. Currently it looks to me that Russia is incredibly vulnerable in the sliver of land they have won both now and in the future with modern munitions.

I'm assuming Johnson will have to start looking for new funders before the next election now Putin has put him on the naughty step.

I am pretty sure he knew that, hence posting about an official admission.

I’m well aware they’ve been in there for ages. I’m just saying it’s the first official acknowledgment.

it was acknowledged officially a good while ago.

Is there a casualty among the Ops to be announced in due course?

If it was acknowledged officially before why was it only "semi open knowledge"?

because it wasn't headline news but still open source.

slipped out gently, so to speak.

Christo Grozev, the Exec Director of Bellingcat told the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee yesterday that they estimate there are 8000 of those Wagner cnuts in Ukraine and that approx. 3000 have been killed already. Seemingly a lot of them went in with the Kyiv force, and there are sadly plenty of signs they left their mark in places like Bucha.

Grozev also suggested that the West's sanctions on Wagner's leader are a bit futile. What they should be doing is going after the members:

"Mr Grozev said that while imposing more sanctions on the group’s head, Yevgeny Prigozhin, known as “Putin’s chef”, would have little impact, it may be more effective targeting individual group members who like to holiday abroad with their families.

The knowledge that they do is a cause of ridicule about western sanctions because this spreads through the rumour mill,” he said. “So stopping all of these people being able to travel internationally, at least to the western world, might be much, much bigger than slapping one more sanction on Prigozhin.”

It's probably worth hooding a few of them outside their hotel and taking them on a second holiday to a Black Site.

Apparently those involved with the atrocities in Bucha have been awarded some form of miliary honour by Putin.

Someone has tracked some stolen heavy agricultural equipment back to Chechnya. Significant objective just seems to be nicking stuff.

Russia issuing Sweden and Finland with a fairly strong warning that they know the consequences if they apply to join NATO.

Surely any invasion of either - if that is the threat - on those grounds would have to trigger direct involvement of NATO troops.

The question is - what would they invade them with? Pretty much all of their land forces are now tied up in Ukraine. They have dregs left in reserve. As mentioned in posts previously, it will take at least a decade for Russia to get close to where they were before they invaded Ukraine - probably longer.

But yeah, agreed - if they did anything it would trigger NATO.

Well, we've seen what happens to countries not in NATO.
All Russia has achieved is to increase the desire for countries to join NATO.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I see Oryx tracking Russian losses has now tipped over 3000 pieces of equipment either destroyed or captured:

    Russia - 3011, of which: destroyed: 1593, damaged: 47, abandoned: 243, captured: 1128

No, because they'll still be using Russian gas.

Was about to say the same. When Germany stops using Russian gas we can cheer, not before.
