Might explain why my local rag and bone man hasn't been around for a few weeks. It takes a lot of old washing machines to equal a single Russian tank.MattFalle said:Theres gonna be some very busy scrap dealers at the end of all this.....
And, unless there's regime change there, I hope that the collective memory of their barbarity will last as long as that of Hitler's. Putin deserves a messy/brutal end: he's trashing his own country at the same time as terrorising their neighbours.0 -

Has this been explained earlier? If so my apologies for not having found it.
I am trying to understand the significance and modus operandi of Putin's immensely long negotiating table, the one where he sits at one end and about 50 metres away at the other, his miserable lickspittles huddle fearfully. Is it simply a phallic symbol demonstrating his vast power and invincibility? Or is it that he is beyond an accurate pistol shot or radius of a bomb blast?
How would it have worked when Macron was occupying the other end? Who would have been at the wrong end of the penis? And how do they communicate at such a distance? Is it via Zoom?
Does Putin not realise how ridiculous it makes him look? Like David Brent in the office although infinitely more grotesquely evil.
This must be the answer:
"Putin 'using body double' to avoid assassination"

Obviously the long table would make it harder for the deception to be spotted.

High rates have stabled the ruble and a decent proportion of central bank reserves remain sanction free.

that should start to drop shortly though as supply can't match demand, yah?.

sanctions affecting external markets and assets rather than internal markets that are being propped up by internal rouble market though, no?
once product supply ceases nothing to spend internal domestic roubles on?.The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

I think there was a miscalculation on a) how insulated the economy was and b) how “Soviet stoicism” has endured - ie spending has stayed largely the same.0

gotta run out at some point though - if there is nothing to spend your money on ...rick_chasey said:I think there was a miscalculation on a) how insulated the economy was and b) how “Soviet stoicism” has endured - ie spending has stayed largely the same.

Worth noting the official Ruble exchange rate is quite different to the black market one.0

what's the two rates out of interest?.

Can’t find the article that I’m quoting from, but it was estimated that it will take Russia at least a decade to get back to their pre invasion strength (or the same level of sh1tness).MattFalle said:tbf, with the russian economy being smashed and a shed load of their military kit being used up/exploded, this is gonna take them years to get over.
Their Navy will be relatively stable. Although upkeep across all the forces will be fecked with sanctions now. That’s a worry when it comes to nuclear powered vessels and their nuke weapons.

With the scum ejected from North of Kyiv, I reckon they’ll move some of the huge Civil Defence Force in to the area to help out with security and civilian logistical help, freeing up the UF so they can take the fight to the North East and bolster the guys down in the Donbass. Those Bucha atrocities will have fuelled their fire.0

the head of their central bank is very good at her job (though reportedly she wanted to quit, but putin made her an offer she couldn't refuse)MattFalle said:

about half their (huge) foreign reserves are frozen, still leaves them with more than the uk has
interest rate now at 20% (but inflation heading higher)
currency controls limit capital flight, exporters are forced to buy rubles with 80% of incoming revenue
aside from continuing energy revenue from the west, plenty of other countries are happy to carry on trading with them
they don't need to import energy, probably ok for food (all the wheat, sunflower oil etc. we're not getting), in pure economic terms i'd think they can carry on indefinitely
the average russian will suffer economic impact, but most seem so indoctrinated by propaganda they'll blame it on the west and put up with it, as far as they're concerned they are the good guys, no matter how many towns they level and innocents they slaughter
