It was straight from the camera. A slight adjustment to the white balance only and voila.

Agree. This was quite a while after sunset and quite dark.

Found a live webcam of this beach. I can check on any sunsets from the sofa now. Great!

I think it’s good to chat about images on this thread, but judging whether an image is depicting reality might be tricky.
Sorry Ben, any B/W pictures are certainly not reality. Black backgrounds are probably best avoided, that’s me out. Long exposures aren’t reality. Fast shutter (a bullet passing through an apple) no!, I’ve never seen individual droplets of water frozen in time. Macro, my eyes don’t focus that close. Astro, most nebulas, galaxies and the Milky Way are enhanced and colourised. Stacking images, photoshop, filters?
Then you’ve got the problem of a 2d depiction of a 3d world- it’s all not real. Also, no peripheral vision, is there a shopping trolley to your left and a dumped car to the right? Context, Is that a woodland, or is it just a 30 metre path leading to an industrial estate?
I don’t mean to be confrontational, but you seam to be appointing yourself the thread judge. Simple, If you don’t like it, don’t put a like. Reposting your improvements is OTT.
Nice pic, but too light, it wasn't like that.

    Much better.

All fair points. I know I don't/can't even get all my photos right: sometimes there seems to be a big gap between what I remember perceiving (especially luminosity) and how it looks on the screen at home later.

It is a long standing debate, and one which will continue forevermore mostly because camera film/sensors see things differently to our eyes.
IMO photography has never been about capturing reality. It is capturing an image.
Only the viewer can decide for themselves where the boundaries are from reality to art to absurd.
I dare say Constable's Hay Wain is not a 100% representation of what he saw.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I suppose there is a crossover in realism and art. I do agree with your `keeping it real` approach, but sometimes taking the mundane..

then changing a few things work.

The lies your neurons tell. One of the things we've become more aware of with the move to Zoom meetings is that we have to slightly rejig images depending on whether we are presenting them on screen or paper.

That's Skirrid Fawr in the distance, just north of Abergavenny and taken from a hill just off the top of the Tumble.

My pick of the bunch from yesterday.
Forecast was for clouds so decided not to to take the camera. 🤬 Phone had to do.

It looks like the phone did a mighty fine job. Pretty little bridge.

The bridge is no longer used, only wide enough for maybe a small cart.
I took the shot from the new one. Which was still built some time ago.

    Some nice shots posted today!
