They weren't the ones with the beware of the bull sign. In the past, I've had to climb up an (unlit) bonfire in the middle of a field whilst surrounded by about 50 irate bullocks charging and hoofing the ground.

I meant to say that those bullocks in the photo are inquisitive ones: the one with its head and ears up actually wants to know what's going on in the front - all the ears forward are wanting to know what you're going to say, and a little gentle talking to them will work wonders.

"Beware of the bull" would definitely make me be wary. The farmer I used to work for used to keep a Ruby Red Devon bull to serve the cows, and they are just about as placid as they get - combined with being a tub of lard, they aren't too risky. On the other hand, 'continentals' are to be treated with caution on steroids.

Haha. Somewhere I've got a photo of my old dog licking cows' noses (he was the most laid-back dog you ever did see, and was brilliant at gently rounding up the cows to bring them in for milking), but I couldn't find that... instead, I found this of me cow-whispering in Austria in about 1992.

    Jersey cows.
Looking back at old photos, I found this, gorilla whispering in the 70s. I don't think they'd get gorillas out of enclosures these days.
Before you ask, I'm the one in the jivey trousers.

    Looks similar.
    They were Jersey gorillas.

    That's a bit cow-racist.

I'll be careful when I mention the Pembrokeshire Black.

Just wondering whether I ought to start a cow thread, as I know @pinno always appreciates being able to find stuff like this easily...

Just do it on the hoof. It might appeal to udder people.

Black and white sort of day today and some Welsh clichés - hills, sheep and a coal mine

I had an incident whilst out on my bike with a very aggressive dog.
To cut a long story short, I slowly backed in to a field where there were some cows and calves who had assembled in curiosity over the shindig.
The cows ignored me. A few of them were stomping the ground and butting the gate. The dog declined to follow me into the field.
Next time around, I bounced a stone off his head. He didn't hassle me again. I felt a bit bad but there was no pacifying the dog and he wasn't backing off all hairs up, stiff legs and furled lip.
Frikkin stupid owners. It's on a regular route and I no longer see the dog or even hear it.

In the depths of glorious Galloway, we were stopped as 2 farmers + quads and a sheep dog tried desperately to get these errant sheep back up the road a mile and into a field after they escaped.
The cows in a adjacent field all lined up, heads over a stone dyke all watching this commotion. Quite comical. Curious creatures cows. Only wish I had a camera at the time.
