    You are not a cat. You can get away with being called Brian.
    Furry Brian is a very handsome chap :smiley: and 'Brian' does not fit.

    They did a survey on cats to see if they knew their names or not. So a group of cats were read a list of random words with their name in the list and sure enough, although not the response like a dog, there was consistently head movement, a twitch of the tail or an ear movement upon hearing their name in the list.
    The conclusion; they do know except they just don't care.
    Seen as Brian won't care, I'm going to propose a name change for furry Brian and that is Ralph. He looks like a Ralph.

    Ah yes I do recall that. I used to have a ginger and white boy cat when I was younger.

    He's great looking, but christ it's annoying. Why does it insist in destroying all my furniture (sofas, carpets, rugs etc).

    He came with the name. We rehomed him as the owner died.

    How do I stop it scratching all my furniture?

    Buy a scratching post. Every time you catch him scratching furniture, lift him away and move him to the scratching post, placing his pads on it.

    Not trivial enough to put in the trivial annoyances thread... I *cannot* get the Windows colour calibration on my cheap Acer laptop to stick: I've Googled and Googled and tried various things, but it keep on going back to an overly blue and dark calibration. I suspect some software is over-ruling the Windows calibration, but I'm blowed if I can find out what. Leaves me guessing a lot of the time on how they'll look to others on a vaguely properly calibrated screen.

    I'm no expert, but are the graphics drivers updated? Pics look a natural colour this end.

    Thanks. Since writing that, I had one more look, and tucked away I found a suggestion that going via the adjustments on the graphics card itself might work, and give up on Windows colour calibration... might just have done the trick.

    Serves me right for getting such a cheap laptop for the 'other house', but as it only gets (at most) 10 weeks of non-work work a year, I wasn't going to spend much on it.
