Woods n flowers.

Just wet flowers for me today. Slightly sad, as they are in the garden of my 92-year-old neighbour who died a month or so ago. All scented.

Spotted this fella on a rock by a stream in Hampshire.

Just point-and-shoot tourist tat today, without an ounce of artistry.

Yet more artistry.

Is that a real close up, or one of those hornets we've been told to look out for?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Some of the results from my B&W experimental day. SOOC so some straightening, cropping and dodging & burning will be done to the final images. #6 is included purely to demonstrate that pretty colours needn't make a pretty image. 😉

It was a good inch and a half long. It's a hornet of some kind but I don't think it's Asian.

Like the pulpit, steps and the guy with the pallet knife. And the bridge.

I probably haven't being paying attention, and should know where that is, PB, but guessing Budapest? Not been there though...

All f1.4 manual focus? I use manual focus 99% of the time, which I find satisfying when nailing focus, especially close ups with a shallow D of F.
I think it would be useful to almost exclusively shoot in B/W for a while to get used to thinking/seeing in tones rather than colours.
Anyway, they’ve worked out well. ‘Pallet knife guy’ has some 3d pop.

Good guess then! 😎
Well worth a trip. Not as cheap a destination as it used to be, but stunning.

If I enjoyed travelling more, it would be on my list... at one time, Prague was on the list, but I think it might have become too much of a tourist destination for my taste, and Budapest might have escaped that fate to a degree.
That said, I'm still a bit too addicted to my regular escape, and can't wait to get there at the end of the week... mountains, empty roads, and my garden.

Yup, all shot in Aperture mode set at 1.4. I did change to auto ISO in the cathedral though, but using exposure compensation. Using manual focus was easier than I expected and actually more accurate. I did use an old A/F lens with good manual focussing which helped.
Permission was asked before shooting the pallet guy. I'm not entirely comfortable with shooting people in a street photography style.

Well if you fancy a change I'd say Budapest is better than Prague. Now is a bit off-season so it was really quiet mid-week. We did notice a transition on Friday night in Pest. A lot of places were shutting around 10pm and it was getting quiet but at the same time clubs were setting up to open so I guess there are different "shifts".
We stayed on the Buda side and it was very quiet. No people noise and certainly no drunken louts. Very clean.

The leaf looks like it's been placed. Never😇.
Everyone's favourite- a macro.

Photography is as much about capturing beauty as it is about creating it.

A small bee?. Was fortunate to get the eye in focus with the wind.
Another pink flower (desaturated).
This looks a bit like it was taken in a model village. Strange.

The bee orchid just makes me smile... I think it's actually a Laughing Muppet Orchid.
And an occasion when catching water with a short exposure has its benefits.

I'd have thought of this as a prime candidate for a B&W conversion.
