There's something I've never understood, I'll admit. You can't drink the head on a beer until it's unheaded. Surely it's purely cosmetic...?

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Pfft, the beer the The Bridge Inn in Topsham, with our without a head, tastes a zillion times batter than that 'sparkled' beer. And they'd certainly not present a pint with an inch of head on it.

Took my latest quirky lens out for a quick test. Surprisingly capable considering the size (absolutely tiny 60 grams), super-simplistic design, age and price (£10). It’s so small on a DSLR, it takes a little dexterity to operate. Quite a charmer, unlike most things coming out of Russia at the moment.
I left the colours as taken. Retro.
Rusty shipping container.
Different day, long lens, fighting the weekend crowds.
End of photo dump.

Merlin?

It kept flying past too quickly for me to ask its name ....
I also have lots of pictures of the grass and trees with either no bird or only a very small part of a bird appearing in them if you would like me to share

Just occasionally the autofocus gets it spot on.

I had the same results when we went to a bird of prey centre in Cornwall a couple of years ago. It really made me appreciate the skill of wildlife photographers.

I've got a friend who is absolutely ace at bird photos, not least as he spends hours in hides in places he's researched properly to work out lines of flight etc. But then he gives himself the best chance of getting a good shot or two by having the new Olympus OM1, which will take very rapid hi-res shots in quick succession, and has a mode that will focus on the eye of birds. He came back from a week's holiday in Sri Lanka with (I think) 40,000 photos to sift through.

^Carp(e) diem.
That’s a good example of where spending money on gear does really matter + patience and skill.

You can't? I must have been drinking wrong!

A polarising filter would have been very useful here

Indeed, however it was a quick snap with my phone on my way from the office to the station.

Snapped at work, just trying to catch a bit of the raininess.

Love the progression from crumbling victorian brickwork with dodgy pointing and buddleia, through the wonky chimney pots to the gleaming glass and steel of the city beyond

I took this a few weeks ago purely because of the juxtaposition of the ancient landmark of the Tower in the foreground and the modern landmarks of The Gherkin / 20 Fenchurch Street etc. behind. I always wonder how they managed to get past the planners given the issues even modest developments get when it comes to heritage and yet it has created a new iconic landscape.

I think I will name this one "Summer 24". 🤣
Original plans were to head into the hills. Plans changed. 😉

Got a thorough soaking yesterday, wading through wet long grass. Took this a couple of evenings ago. He was fishing, but you can't see his rod.

Cheapo Amazon tyres (£42 for the pair, including inner toobs) on the old posh bike. Been happy with the 25mm ones on the winter bike, so seemed to be worth a punt on these 23mm ones.

I'd been looking for tyres for a while and checked Planet X £27.99 each. Checked again a couple of days later and crazy PX pricing had them for £9.99. I filled my boots and stocked up. PX Jack Brown race, manufactured by Panaracer with the same grippy compound.
More action from the lifeguard hut this morning and went with the theme. Did manage a few (clothed) beachgoer snaps too without looking like a long lens pervert.
Not mine, but at least I bagged a bike shot.

I would be a bit worried buying tyres called Conna 😉especially when they look like Continental copies.

Well, they were perfectly acceptable on my 60-miler this afternoon. And if I am a bit slow, I can blame the cheap tyres rather than my age.
