I found out this summer that that stand of pines at the far end of Budleigh beach are a remnant of when it had a working harbour. They were grown for replacement masts so the story went.briantrumpet said:masjer said:
And here's me thinking it was a nice morning mist.briantrumpet said:With thanks to whoever was having a bonfire this morning...
It did surprise me, as it was otherwise as clear as a bell this morning.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Whether it's true or not, I'd not heard that before. Sounds plausible.0 -

Note to self, when you have the perfect autumn morning make sure you take a camera with you. My phone did a decent job but would have loved to have my camera and filter with me. First proper autumn morning of the year with a light frost, mist, sunrise and a high tide. I'm hoping tomorrow morning is similar so I can get out early to a few locations I passed whilst driving but the forecast isn't promising.
Couldn't pick a favourite sorry!

Nice, all the same. Third one for me.Pross said:Note to self, when you have the perfect autumn morning make sure you take a camera with you. I did remember to take my camera - no mist, but not bad, all the same. I can't decide either.

I think from mine the top one is my favourite, just a shame about the pylon. I played around with the settings of the third one in Flickr and it looked great in the editor but as soon as it was saved looked over-saturated and unnatural, something I seem to get a lot when editing. My preference of yours is the red leaves (Japanese maple?), very autumnal.0

Agree - #1 with the mist rising up looks fantastic.0

My favourite of Pross's, with a quick mod. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I must admit that, particularly in my French photos, I try to avoid all the overhead electrical cables, pylons and poles, (which are generally much more ubiquitous and intrusive there, as they bury very few), but occasionally will resort to a bit of PB trickery to 'tidy up' an image where there was no way to disguise them. I feel very naughty though.0

I feel the same Brian, and try to avoid any distractions but sometimes needs must and it's nice to know the option is there, if you can be bothered.
Actually, a nicer one if you have the resolution might be a crop on the central tree. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The clone tool is the most useful there, just a shame that in Irfan View there's no option for softening the brush, or even feathering the edges. Must admit I quite like the challenge too.0 -

Pretty much every software package will have a cloning/healing tool.Pross said:
Thank you - I have no idea how to edit things out like that.pblakeney said:My favourite of Pross's, with a quick mod. 😉
Takes time and practice to do a good job though. Well for me anyway.....The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Resolution seems to be fine and makes some background detail much clearer. I'd really like it if it wasn'ty for the power cables.pblakeney said:I feel the same Brian, and try to avoid any distractions but sometimes needs must and it's nice to know the option is there, if you can be bothered.

My French Facebook tribe have agreed with you, if the number of likes is to be believed.0 -
The red leaves are appealing but there is more to #4 imo.

I'm thinking about paying out for Lightroom and / or Photoshop but can't work out which I need. I really only want to be able to adjust exposure / contrast / colour etc. and maybe remove the odd pesky pylon that is spoiling a shot and I think I can do everything I need in Lightroom although the healing tool in Photoshop is apparently more accurate. The other thing I would like to try is bracketing. No real interest in full-scale picture editing / graphic design type stuff. LR is about £10 a month or LR and PS is around £20, I don't mind paying the extra if there's likely to be a load of features I'll use in both but I'm leaning towards just LR. Would welcome opinions though.0

A bit of a left field response but I use Affinity Photo.
It does all I want for a one-off fee of £47.99.

Thanks, I'll tke a look. I've currently got GIMP installed and via Raw Therapee I can open and edit the Sony RAW files all free but I find it all quite complicated. I suspect the same would apply with LR or anything else to be honest as it probably comes down to me not unerstanding what all the functions do. One thing I'd love to be able to do and don't know if it is viable in any software (or at least not wiothout a lot of skill in edting) is to make the sky darker and stars / foreground lighter in my Milky Way photo. I got an 18" x 12" print done of that but it all looks a bit dark compared to how I see it on screen which is annoying.0
