Ha. I think that's a garden you can just make out through the gap, so not a heated space. I quite liked the multiple repairs on the bottom edge, which are in turn decaying, and the forged hasp looks pretty old.Pross said:1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

A few from my photo shoot at Carew Castle on Monday night. Quite pleased with the results for a complete novice, especially the Milky Way shot as I was getting nothing in the viewfinder. I played around with various exposure times (20” to 50 odd seconds in bulb mode) and ISO settings. The ideal seemed to be ISO 800 or 1600 with 20 or 30" exposure but with some playing around in the photo editing software to enhance the foreground (the castle isn't lit at all) whilst trying to keep the sky fairly dark. ISO settings any higher seemed to give me too much noise, especially the 6400 shots I took. 20-30" gave larger looking stars without too much blurring, anything higher and they started to blur. I did get a few trails from planes and what I think is a shooting star on one.
ISO 200 1/250" f/4.5 26mm
ISO 400 1/125" f/4.5 30mm
ISO 800 36" f/3.5 18mm6 -

Well done, perseverance paid off! Great choice of location with the MW right behind the castle.

I’m pretty useless on the post-processing stuff. I just slide things around until I get something that looks about right but don’t really know what does what e.g. playing with exposure seems to do much the same as brightness or shadow. I’m using Capture One as it is one of the few free bits of software that can work with Sony RAW files. Might eventually invest in Light Room (I have it as a basic app on my phone) and then do some research on using it properly.
I was pleased that I actually managed to pull off what I had in my head even before I travelled down last Friday and discovered just how clear the sky was especially as it wasn’t something I’d even tried previously.0 -
I use the free Light Room app (it works on a chromebook). It's quite generous how much is free, but full LR would be something far superior.
I'd be chuffed with what you've achieved.0 -
I prefer your edit to be honest, it’s brought more detail out without looking too bright. It would be interesting to know the settings you used so I can try to replicate it.0

I can try;
Light
Exposure up a tiny bit.
Highlights-up
Shadows-up
Whites- down
Blacks-up
Colour
Temp- down (blue)
Tint-up
Dehaze- up
Sharpening- up
Noise reduction-up
That's about it.1 -

Some blues mountains today, including Mont Ventoux in the distance on the left...

This is more of a sort of 'things that cheer me up post/photo, in that today was supposed to be wall-to-wall miserable. It wasn't, and my friends who are staying and I went up to a local viewpoint up a dead-end road I'd never been up.

The stars haven't aligned for a jaunt with my Paris-to-Rome friends to go up the Gorges de la Bourne - last time they were here the road was closed for works, then covid kept them away for two years.
But today was the day. I like the challenge of finding a slightly different angle on something I've snapped several times. Having three riders with me helped.

A windy one, but lots of photo opportunities.

Windy days are good for photography as you get less haze. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Would like to get some lightning shots but there’s no decent background from the house and I don’t want to go out and get soaked!0

There are some storm clouds building here. Thunderstorm, empty beach, large waves...tempting. What could go wrong?
Update. Just started raining, so a good excuse not to bother.0 -
Pfft. Where's your commitment to artistic endeavour? You wouldn't catch Turner staying in because he might get wet. 😁Pross said:Would like to get some lightning shots but there’s no decent background from the house and I don’t want to go out and get soaked!

I’m putting the same level of commitment into it as I did to cycling or running. When it gets tough give up!rjsterry said:

Not up to other poster's efforts with moving water, but i wanted to catch some of the beauty of the cool stream right next to where the fire was a couple of weeks ago, and the pleasure of listening to its babbling. It'll do, for a lazy photographer.

A quick visit to the beach. The waves were washing right up to the top of the beach, so it was a case of following the receding waves out, take a quick shot, then run.

Had another go at photographing heavy rain on the same light... you can see the individual droplets, even if they are long & blurred. Watching it did make me wonder why rain apparently comes down in 'strings' (hence the French phrase for heavy rain)... I guess there must be some aerodynamics going on.

Ah, I wondered why there were cobwebs in my bedroom on my return...

It was perfect conditions. Sunset, large waves and no wind.
I took a few pics, but the ones with nice waves had blown out skies, and you've guessed it, the ones with good skies had tame waves.
This was certainly the best though.
Ah, I see you've returned, Brian.0 -

Yup. Next stay will be Christmas, so the mountainous cheesiness should be frosty. In the meantime, soggy lumpy Devon...1 -

There seems to be a lot of spider action on the web at the moment. It deserves its own thread.1
