They should send a Group B rally car up in front of the riders, should stir things up a bit.

Valverde is saying "It's an accident of the race but these things happen in sport. They hit a moto and fell, but these things happen in cycling." I thought there was meant to be some sort of unwritten code in cycling where you are meant to be a gentleman about things...

It's Valverde. Cycling's very own Dick Dastardly.

I'm surprised Valverde was even that charitable, to be honest!

    ??? Nope.

I still think it was absolutely hilarious to see the maillot jaune running down the road. Completely farcical. I'm not going to start crying about it and go into a manic depression. Its sport, a spectacle and to me that was a funny scene

Where did they take the time from to get those differences?
Must have been roughly what they were at the time of the crash while the 3 were still together, the Froome->Mollema gap hasn't changed from the start of the day.

They have the GPS trackers on the bikes now so presumably they can take the gaps pretty accurately.

Seems the fairest solution. Commissares are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Practically, how else could they time it?

Well I agree with all of that :D

I'd prefer to see a proper competition though and think the commissaires made the right choice TBH. Although watching Froome get those 53s back would have been good to watch.

How far from the finish did the crash actually happen?

Yes thanks I am aware of that. But they don't just boo him. They boo lots of other riders too. And they do worse than boo. I still don't understand it. If you think the sport is infected with cheats why waste your time and money to go and stand on the side of a mountain and watch a bunch of cheats? People are stupid.

Yes I agree. Frankly I think if you're going to watch cycling you have to just enjoy it for what it is at the time otherwise where is the fun in watching it?

  • So Froome finishes behind his GC rivals and extends his lead over them. Not sure i would be happy if i was yates, quintana etc.

I think it was well inside the final 2k - saw a quote from Aru (who was in the main GC group behind) and he said he passed Froome around 700m to go.

Yeah, but that gained time they had would make any potential victory extremely hollow. Personally I think he will smash them tomorrow in the TT and so it will be immaterial. Plus, the next mountain stage he'll probably smash them again.

The alternative was Froome riding away from most of his rivals and losing time to them, so either way someone was going to be unhappy.

Don't know exactly. Outside the kite but well inside 3kms. Around 1500 metres I'd guess.

Lets be honest but for the uphill rule, this falls into the exactly the same category as the Adam Yates incident.

That would put it inside the barriers, surely?

A very unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I really dislike the arbitrary way the commissaires pick and choose when to change things. There's been lots of incidents like this in the past when the results stood. The only difference here is that it involved the yellow jersey and that that would be really embarrassing for them. Cycling needs some rules and needs to enforce them whether that is riding on the pavement, crossing a level crossing or crashing on a mountain.

If anyone's keeping a list, please put me into the 'Froome shouldn't get time back' camp. Mostly because the organisers are responsible for this in not relocating the barriers, and they should be the ones who have to live with making the race a farce,

Really hope that Froome goes on to win this now, and by a margin that makes it irrelevant.

From here going forward we need to see Froome open up a 54s extension to his lead - then there will be no doubt in years to come... Almost like a handicap race from here on in.

Yeah but remember this wasnt the planned finish which is 5km up the road and where the last 3km have barriers. You can see that they only had barriers on one side of the road. The decision to move the finish was made just before stage start
