Given the time that mollema lost getting back on his bike, awarding the same time as him is the least they should do. However I reckon he'll get the same as the next group at best and at worst be given a time penalty on top of his lost time.

If the result stands I'd like to see him crack on and win, then announce on the podium that he's never coming back.

    Has anyone blamed Wiggle yet?
Chris Boardman summed it up as like something that happens in a bad dream - you're trying to go somewhere but you just can't make it happen - that's exactly what Froome looked like on his Mavic bike. A complete farce, it surely can't stand. Personally, I think it will be adjusted from 10th place onwards so the likes of Mollema and Porte are is likely to be the biggest losers after making a genuine attacking move before the incident.

Froome in yellow. However, nobody has told whoever writes the summary for the official website:

"Thomas De Gendt and Serge Pauwels made another 1-2 for Belgium at Mont Ventoux after Greg Van Avermaet and De Gendt did it at Le Lioran on stage 5. They fought for stage victory from a breakaway group but Chris Froome was victim of a mechanical in the finale after he and Richie Porte had dropped Nairo Quintana before the finish at Chalet-Reynard. Adam Yates moved into the overall lead ahead of Bauke Mollema."

They should send a Group B rally car up in front of the riders, should stir things up a bit.

Valverde is saying "It's an accident of the race but these things happen in sport. They hit a moto and fell, but these things happen in cycling." I thought there was meant to be some sort of unwritten code in cycling where you are meant to be a gentleman about things...

What a weird feeling. When it happened I was all with the presenters and most of you guys - "must be neutralised!"

Now that Froome's in Yellow, I'm kinda disappointed. Would have been awesome seeing him take it back.

Sounded like a fair bit of booing from some fans, while others were chanting "Quintana!" at him. Lovely stuff

That is shocking. Why do people boo? I'd like to see any of them cycle up a mountain anywhere near as fast as any of the pro riders.

The commentators were suitable unimpressed saying that there really needs to be a discussion about crowds on mountains.

Also was amazing to see the lack of control the police had when Froome was getting the neutral service bike. There's no football on any longer, there's no excuse.

I'm sure you're aware that lots and lots of cycling fans think that he's a cheat. I don't but that's the accepted orthodox position for many people unfortunately. It's Armstrong's main legacy.

How could there be if you can cross the line on foot?
I think you miss the point. Otherwise, anyone could turn up to a bike race with a pair of sneakers and no bike, run the whole event and then then someone hands them a bike just before they cross the line.

Anyway, the rules are vague (both the UCI rules and the TdF Rule... there is mention of not taking shortcuts. I guess it is so obvious they didnt feel like a rule needed to be included.

Must have been roughly what they were at the time of the crash while the 3 were still together, the Froome->Mollema gap hasn't changed from the start of the day.

So it's been done on time gaps at the time of the crash? Looks that way.

Whether you like Froome or not, it's fair. He's the one doing the attacking, he's clearly stronger than his immediate challengers, and he has shown guts and panache on several occasions so far. He deserves to be where he is, and the best rider deserves to win.

Yes thanks I am aware of that. But they don't just boo him. They boo lots of other riders too. And they do worse than boo. I still don't understand it. If you think the sport is infected with cheats why waste your time and money to go and stand on the side of a mountain and watch a bunch of cheats? People are stupid.

And like all of these rules the commissaires seem to pick and choose when to apply them.

I wouldn't have been shocked if he had been DQ'd on that basis - but it would have been even more farcical (if that's possible, this has been a pretty farcical tour so far!)
