Aye that's as maybe but what about the rapid progress of late, eh?

10 bits of decals to fit and the frame will be ready to start this build, which lets face it is the easy part and even I couldn't drag that one out for more than, let's say an afternoon, could I?

Now when this is all over and it will be over at some point; it is inevitable, what are you going to do? I suppose MF could pop along and start therapy sessions and then you could give us a long egocentric blog about every stage of the proceedings. A blow by blow account and how you are overcoming the depression that followed the intensity, the fame and the epic (...quantities of feather and fluff between the pics).

I knew someone would say that :D

It's a reflection from all that chrome, the join is underneath and out of the picture, so it's just an optical illusion, strengthened by your desire to find something, anything to take the pi55 out of

But well done, have a biscuit :D

    More importantly...it's the wrong bike!

The wrong bike? So you've got two bikes with crooked stickers?

I got the decals from a chap in the uk, not here in 'Switzerland'

There are 10 decals, I have applied 8 today, saved two bits to do tomorrow, didn't want to overdo it.

I will post piccies of the completed frame tomorrow...probably :D

And I, in return, will take pictures of the Vitus to post.

As n aside, you'll know this stuff: are Mavis free hubs interchangeable through the years - ie if I want to change a 7 speed to a 10 speed is it a mega hassle?

You'll need at least 130mm spacing between the rear dropouts. Other than that, it should be straightforward. Steel can be cold set - widened without heat. Other materials i'e Durilanox/Kevlar, is another ball game.
There will be no inter-compatibility between a threaded 7 speed hub and a modern cassette freewheel.

Grazie! Spacing is no problem - I've just taken a 9 speed wheel out as I prefer the look of this other wheel and it's a modern style free hub on both wheels, so waddya say - unbolt one and bolt the other on?

Brie levers have been moved, about to try some spare down tube shifters on it, bambina is going to do the handlebar tape for me in a minute so will post a piccie.

Dirk will also be going under the surgeon's knife tomorrow. Please think of him as he undergoes this traumatic time.

    RIP Dirk

OK, so I got up early (it's all that sunshine dontcha know) and finished off the frame!

Now the actual build can start...well I've got a roof to build tomorrow, but the deadline for that is when it next rains so I'm ok until late september :D

    Ere tiz...

Yes, I got the decals straight, yes they are centered correctly, yes they are in the correct place, yes it all matches the other Swiss miss etc etc :D

The second lug on the seat tube isn't lined. Any reason? It's a lovely bike but it is a museum piece surely? Maybe you should start one. An eclectic collection of eclectic bikes by an eclectic man. Perfect.

    Confused (nothing new there).

Do you want to change the free hub on the wheel?
Do you want to change the freehub from a 7 speed to a 10 speed? Don't think it's possible. 8 is but not 7.

Pretty sure you'll need an M11 freehub. I did change one of these on a pair of Ksyrium's but it was a while ago. I changed from a Shimano to a Campag one. 7 speed cassette hubs are a bit of an 'oddity':

Problem solved - turns out it was an 8 speed free hub so I dropped the 11 tooth off the 9 speed cassette and all is now lovely. Thank you anyhow.

The purpose of lug lining is to show off the craftsmanship and sheer beauty of the (albeit factory produced and altered) lugs, I did not want to draw attention to that lug as it is lug ugly, and does not deserve my (well Mrs T's) artistic touch of white paint, it's just a functional joining of the 'top tube' :D

Museum piece? like the isetta or me for that matter, should fit right in :D

What is this new tangled 'free hub' and 'cassette' of which you speak?

Bikes with more than five gears?

I'm sure there are other parts to BR that discuss modern flim flam, like communting perhaps :D

Don't worry - I'm now piffling about with the brakes - you pull the lever and there's absolutely nothing but sponginess, the lever comes back to the bare and there is no resistance.

Any ideas? Brand new cable inners and outers, Ultegra calipers, does the same with both brand new Shimano levers and 80s Weinemanns.
