As it cooled down a bit I went for a test ride this evening, rides really nice, light and rolls really well, liking these wheels and tyres, may need to slow it down a bit or I won't be able to keep up with Mrs T :D

Couple of things need looking at, the 1978 NOS brakes work fine but 38 year old blocks squeal like a pig, maybe rubber hardens over time :D

A few adjustments then it's time to take them both out for a spin and swap bikes for comparison and some photos of the beautiful couple :D

Pour sand into the frame. Fill the tyres up with water and put bricks into the wicker basket when you finally fit it.

First test ride today, all was good, gears changed smoothly, Mrs T loved it, rolls really well, even the little 42t chainring was no match for her as she powered up the steep hill to the church, I let her go on ahead

Seriously nice - very good work.

    Window frames need a varnishing.

    One window needs glass.

That's better. Le grande rustique doesn't lend itself to vintage bikes.

Headset taken apart, bearings cleaned, re-greased, re-assembled, adjusted, tea imbibed - 18 minutes (tea was hot)

    Rush job. Won't work properly.

48 hours and counting - now that's the proper way of doing it :)

    Well done T47.

    Liar liar, pants on fire:

"...really pleased as this is the first bike I've ever built from scratch".

Makes you wonder why we don't have competitions like that on here
