Being in a very lucky position to use this bike as a winter bike, cleaned both machines and just swapped the wheels from the Tcr for the picture.Imho it looks stunning with the mavics.
  • You can't be the first to post pictures of the Disc braked Supersix without a bit of a review!!
  • I'm going with feels like a Super Six, brakes like a SuperX.

Which is going to be quite something.

Heh, well it's the first time I've used a hydraulic discs at all. My experience is largely positive I'd say, enough that I would definitely get a disc brake road bike next time I was buying. I got rained on my first day in GC and they gave me enormous confidence in the wet compared to rim brakes.

Similarly, as someone who rides carbon clinchers, I think they are perfect for descending mountains. I don't have to worry about overheating rims and if I were to have disc brake compatible carbon rims in the future, I don't need to be concerned with rim wear. They probably saved my life too as some pratt in a BMW nearly killed me as I was descending a switchback and he was tokyo drifting his way up in my lane!

The combination of discs and Aksiums did feel noticeably weighty on 25%+ grades (Valley of Tears) but I think I climb stuff that steep so infrequently it's not really an issue.

You're right it's stunning but then I may be biased as I also have a S6E in red. Are those wheels the Mavic cosmic pro Carbon sl c? If so how do they ride as I'm seriously considering getting some in a few months. Again great looking bike ☺️

Must admit the weight of Supersix and the costs put me off a little. The Focus Izalco eTap is 5k the Supersix HiMod Di2 Ultegra is 4.6k Focus say their eTap is 6.7kg Pretty sure the Six is closer to 7.4kg My Six Evo Red @ 3k weighs in at 7.2kg. The Six doesn't even get top of the range finishing kit.

Definitely going to upgrade my Six to a disc summer bike at some point, just which one. I do not like the compact framed bikes with slopey top tubes so limits my choice a bit!
  • May well swap to compact this year.

And these look to be my preferred option

I'm not sure it's the quality of your camera phone, more a case of photographing a black and green bike against a black and green hedge, from distance. :)

Yep, no Pulitzer Prize for photography for you on this occasion :)

Maybe you can redeem yourself however?

  • Defintely this. Keeps it Cannondale and came on my CAAD12. Really make the bike

    And a new stem !

  • I have the 52/36 8 arm ring on my CAAD12, but also the compact 10 arm version on my supersix.

If you have an SI chainset, it's worth doing.
  • I am currently re-building my Black Inc with a few upgrades.

I've re-cabled the bike with I-Links lightweight cables, fitted EE callipers and rebuilt my speedplays with ti axels, bowties and bolts.

It really needs some new wheels, but i'm holding out for cyclescheme at work to put towards a pair.

With what you've listed so far I hate to think how much your gonna spend on wheels !
I'm probably going with some DT Swiss PR1400 Oxic with the fancy cermic coating.

Need some cable advice - I have a small 52cm frame and the cable bend is tight in to the headtube for the rear brake cable so it splits quickly (the others don't suffer so badly ).
Would some fancy cables last any better ?
Or leave a little more slack ?
    Cheers

this is partly why i went onto the i-link cables, as the runs into the EE brake calipers are a funny shape and i couldn't get it quite right with the dura ace outer, you might benefit from the Jagwire Elite Link if you can find a set

wheels wise, i am a bit torn between Enve 3.4 or 4.5

Frankly it isn't much better no.

Take a look at the better photos in the thread. Leaning it up against a neutral wall and having the frame lit properly will help

The front wheel is turned so it doesn't fall over!

Sorry to rehash an old question but is anyone running a SS Evo 2016 with 25mm tyres? I want to check there would be enough clearance with decent wide rims.

I had 25mm conti GP4000 on pacenti sl23 rims on a SS Evo Hi-Mod 2016 and it was fine not sure if theres a different clearance between that and a stand ss evo 2016

Thanks jdee84. That is exactly the type of wheel/tyre combo that I would be thinking about but I was specifically looking at the 105/Ultegra 2016 SS versions (some good bargains out there). I guess I have to be careful that 'minor' optimisations between models don't cause a problem. I am not expecting to get mudguards on as this would be a sunny day purchase but would like a couple of mms just in case debris sticks, etc.

Sorry its not much help but I have 25mm tyres on a 2015 model that come up very wide on my wheels, surely they wouldn't have reduced the clearance for 2016 given the trend towards wider tyres?

I'd doubt they would have reduced it but I just know mine was advertised as having clearance for 28's but don't know if it was only the hi-mod frame update from last year that had this clearance or if they also updated the non hi-mod last year to allow greater clearance
