So your technique for fitting these tyres to these rims is a multi step process that starts with fitting them to another wheel set and then getting t-boned by a taxi? Is it important that it's a taxi, or do you think the same result could be achieved with other vehicles?

I will admit, its a little extreme!

I do have a second set of Revos - perhaps I will conduct an experiment and jump into the path of an oncoming electric car, to see if they work as well as internal combustion cars...

it should really be said that (especially for disc builds) £400 is a real sweet spot for great value handbuilts.

Yes - and I think I will still get another pair of handbuilts in the future, to replace my busted ones, but I got the REVOs for £160... So they can be winter wheels on the good bike, suffering the salt on the roads etc or everyday wheels on my commuter, without worrying about them. I wouldnt choose to spec bladed spokes in an ideal world though.

I wouldnt pay full price for the REVOs, I would get hand built with Archetype rims on DT350 hubs for not much more.

Same thing as the Cross light, for what I can see... the price has ramped up significantly, as those could be bought last year for 100 quid less.
I think in that price bracket you can certainly buy better hubs than generic Taiwanese jobs. A pair of equivalent wheels with 28 light spokes and wide rims built on UK built Hope hubs would probably cost around the same price

The spec shows them as 140g lighter than the V4 of the CX Disc (which is also sometimes called the crosslight).

The V4 of the CX Disc added thru axle compatibility and Centrelock brakes - and shaved a little weight. Each version seems to reduce weight but I think the price goes up at the same time.

I agree that at £360 they dont make sense.

Get the REVOs for £160 or get some hand built.

Thread bump! My new Revos have arrived and could not wait until my VAR "tight tyre" levers arrive (probably tomorrow) before trying to put some tyres on. Have given up trying to mount my Vittoria Randonneur 32mm folding clinchers after an hour and a half. I know these wheels have a rep for being difficult to mount tyres on, but these really don't seem to want to go. Gutted as planning a ride on them tomorrow as have a day off  Has anyone successfully got their Randoneurs on their Revo's?

All hail the VAR lever! Couldn't get the Randoneurs on my Revo's until these bad boys arrived! Still a struggle though, but these definitely made the difference. Small enough for jersey pockets/tool bottles too..off to test the new wheels 8)

I found an idea online somewhere for getting new tyres on, and it involves putting the tyre on, sans tube, as far as you can realistically, until there is say a portion you could in theory roll over by hand, but it is then being held tight if that makes sense.

I then leave it for 24 hours, and tackle it the next day. I managed to get four durano pluses on in this way - but they also required the use of straps to hold the tyre in, still a battle.
IIRC one or two of them I even completed without levers.

So I have bought a set of the Pro-Lite's from Wiggle... I see that some are saying that these are centerlock, will these work with my Hayes CX-5 mechanical brakes? and I suppose I need to get centerlock hubs?

Both mine were 6 bolt. Didn't see any option for centre lock. If they are center lock you will either need to buy new rotors or you can just get an adapter which screws into the center lock and gives 6 bolt holes.

Both mine were also 6 bolt but would have preferred centre lock!

They will definitely be 6 bolt. It would upset the other distributor otherwise!

For anyone price matching. It USED to be the case that the pics on Ribble showed a different wheel to the one on Wiggle.

Not anymore. Despite the Q&A section showing that these are not the A21w that picture is identical to the ones I have and Wiggle supplied.

In fact, erroneous description on Wiggle aside, I don't think an A25 version even exists.

Nope agreed, I have tried 6 price matches over the weekend, and all have been rejected from different people.

Maybe I should just buy a second pair from Ribble - are we saying they are indeed the same wheel?
The thing that concerns me is the apparent weight that is quoted on the Ribble site.

Additionally Ribble state in the Q&A that:
This is not the A21W version of the wheels.

EDIT: Have made one final effort, stating that they have price matched for me in the past, and giving my order number, mentioned that no 25mm rim seems to exist on the pro lite website, and also that the pictures are identical.

I think in all likelihood I should just look on it as £140 saved though!

Ok so I swapped my Four Seasons for some Randonouer Pro 35mm tyres. Getting the contis off was fun as the bead had become stuck to the inner rim which I have never come across before. Also I had to centre the tyre so it sat in the dip of the rim, once done the tyre came off ok. Good news is the Randonouers went on great with the kool stop gadget.

Yep, so confirmed not a cat in hells chance of getting them matched. Reckon l2r landed the last pair.

I was goung to ask an earlier poster about his ribble wheels, but looks like he has not been on the site for over 2 months.

Think I will stick with the one pair anyhow.

    Oh here's a thing.
The rear wheel has started making a small squeaking noise when wheeling the bike at low speed. Spin the wheel and you don't hear it at all. Quite peculiar.
    Anyone else had that?

Edit, think I may have found the same issue.
    Know what they mean?
    2) The rear wheel started squeeking (a kind of noise produced by rubber or plastic - not a metallic sound) below 10kmh. It might be a motivation to go faster, but it was really disturbing. After checking the brake pads without any success, I asked the Pro-Lite Support for help and Rob from Pro-Lite answerded me within 5 (!) minutest on a mail attaching some photos to resolve the issue. The rubber sealings of the QR Axle element ran dry and needed some treatment with light oil. So far, the noise is gone and the problem seems to be solved. Thanks again for this incredibly quick response!

Yes looking at the pictures, they looked identical, so I took a punt, but they are not.
The weight of the Ribble wheelset is as quoted as I have a set.
They do not come with any adaptors either and were sent out in a Ribble box not Prolite.
I got Wiggle to price match on Friday and will be returning my wheelset back to Ribble

Hey BTR, nope it is rock solid, no movement at all.
I edited my post afterwards to add a review I found on Wiggle that sounds like the issue I have.
And just for the record, it hasn't ovely been out in the rain, in the wet yes, but barely out in the rain, probably only 120 miles max covered, of which 10 at most were in light rain.

I'll see if I can find a contact for Pro Lite and see if they can send me the same instructions, and will of course share if they come through.

Ah ok, that is good to know, and saves me a huge amount of hassle, thanks for replying - greatly appreciated :D

I wonder how many wheels sets Wiggle have price matched incorrectly, it must be in excess of 20 I would wager, and even within the reviews there are at least 2 people who state they have price matched, one of which mentions Ribble even, which would have prompted yet more price matches still.

I only asked about the cassette because, with both of mine, that happened. I retightened them. But, both squeaked. Not at 10kmh though. Just when pushing it by hand. I regreased the hubs and it went away.

It does sound as if the Wiggle price match process is a little arbitrary to say the least. I've also had some peculiar noises on my new set, spinning by hand in the work stand there was a sound as if rubber was squeaking (like the tyre was rubbing on something), but nothing was remotely close to the tyre. Re-tightened the QR and noise has gone.

I also noticed that the recent review of the Revo's on Cycling Plus wasn't exactly glowing, had issues with two sets on test with one experiencing complete bearing fail within 100 miles. They seem easy enough to work on though so fingers crossed. Have also regreased the hubs on BTR's recommendation...

FWIW I don't think they are worth £325 apart from weight. But there's enough in them to make them good enough for £250.

For £160 they are just silly great. Bear in mind that both mine did Battle on the Beach (mate's son borrowed one of my bikes, I used the other one). No issues at all.
