New £400 disc wheels?

I'm looking to upgrade the wheels on my 2015 Giant Defy Advanced 1 and so far I'm tempted by a set of Hunt Wheels, either the Mason x Hunt - http://www.huntbikewheels.com/collections/road-disc-wheels/products/mason-x-hunt-four-season-disc-brake-road-bike-wheelset-tubeless-ready or the standard 4Season - http://www.huntbikewheels.com/collections/road-disc-wheels/products/4season-gravel-disc-road-cx-wheelset-1589g-24deep-24wide
The ordinary 4 Seasons are 24mm Deep, 24mm Wide, 19mm Internal with 28 spokes front and rear and 1589g, the Mason X ones are 27mm Deep, 23mm Wide, 17mm Internal 24 spokes front and rear and 1585g, not a lot in it, which would people recommend between the 2?
If it helps, I'm 80kg and mainly a social rider, and I'll be using 28mm Conti GP4000s ii tyres, also happy to look at any other wheels, it's just that the Hunts seemed to be good value and get good reviews. Thanks.

Of the 2 listed I would go for the 4 Seasons. Not much heavier than the Mason's but with more spokes and a wider internal rim width. This will give you a more robust wheel and the wider rim will allow a plusher ride on 25 or 28mm tyres.
Another option to consider is the Moonglu offering (Archetype rims and Hope Pro 2 Evo hubs).

I have a set (32F/32R) and can't fault them. I'm 10kg heavier than you - hence the higher spoke count on mine.0 -
Just got some pro lite revo from ribble 58% off, great so far, light 1650g and tubeless ready as well think I paid £150.0

That these ones - http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/pro-lite-revo-alloy-road-disc-wheelset/PROLWHRD220
The specs say they're 2.2kg and I can't see any others on there, have you measured them at 1650g? Cheers.0 -

I had my budget set at £300 until the Hunts caught my eye, so even £550 is definitely way over budget.0
-
look at / post in handbuilt thread.
novatech (axle swappable model) on pacenti SL25 rims and whatever spoke option you can afford.0 -
Instead of the Pacenti rims (which are good) there is the Kinlin XR22T disc offset available in 28H and 32H drilling (435g weight as well). That is another excellent rim that is also quite cheap.
DT Swiss do a disc brake version of the R460 in 24H 28H and 32H. This is cheap.
Use triple butted spokes if you can Hunt's wheels don't unfortunatley and a disc brake wheels life is not limited by rim wear so maximising spoke life is more critical and the Novatec hubs are a good choice. Hunt's hubs by the way are Novatec D771/D772 just rebranded.
With either the Kinlin rim or the DT Swiss rim a sub £300 wheelset is possible and you won't get better. The kinlin rim is the better of the two because it has offset drilling.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Have a look on the pro lite site, ribble have got the description wrong.0
-
Wiggle have them at 262 at the mo with a better description, sure they'll price match.0
-
Another vote here for Pacenti SL25 rims with Novatec hubs.0

Thanks for the replies, very tempted by the Pro-Lites, half decent reviews on Wiggle and 1650g for £150, if they see me through this year I can always get a better set next year and put the money I save towards a cycling holiday.0

Cycleclinic has been very modest!
His Pacenti -Novatech disc wheelset build gets a great review in a recent cycling weekly edition. He would be my first port of call.
Another option is:

Hi
I am also interested in the Pro lite revo's, are the ribble one's definitely the same model as the wiggle one's?
I rang ribble today but even they couldnt tell me what model they where when i questioned the weight diffences to the pro lite website?0 -
I bought some JRA Jawbones for £380 SL25 rims with CX Ray spokes Great wheelset.0
-
Ordered the Pro-Lites in the end after Wiggle price matched Ribble, potentially not as good as the other wheelsets I was looking at but they should be better and lighter than the Giant P-R2's that are on there, so at least it's a partial upgrade for now.0

Think you got yourself a good deal!
I think I will try the same with Wiggle and order from them. I'm pretty sure Ribble's are last years wheels as the photos are different to wiggle's and they are heavier.
How easy was it to get Wiggle to price match? Never done it before!0 -
Just submitted the price match to Wiggle.........hopefully I will have the same result as you
I'm no expert but I think they look a pretty good deal even at wiggle's £262. They are also future proof if you ever change your bike to a thru bolt type frame in the future0 -
Good work to those that have managed to get Wiggle to price match Ribble for the pro lite revo wheels. I contacted Ribble to check the spec and they confirmed the spec quoted is correct. They reiterated the wheels they are selling are not the same as ones sold by Wiggle.0
-
Just had my price match code back from Wiggle and just ordered the Pro lite Revo's....hopefully a good wheel set for an even better price!0

Intriguing, I have just submitted one too!

Just had this back:Thanks for bearing with us while we had a look at your price match request for the Pro Lite Revo A21 Alloy Road Disc Brake Wheelset. We aim to make this as easy for you as possible, but we do have certain rules we have to follow.
The items may be similar in appearance and performance but bad news: they aren’t identical in terms of product detail so we can’t offer you a price match for this request.
The wheelset on Wiggle is the 21mm rim version, whereas the wheelset on Ribble Cycles is the 25mm version, therefore they are not the same item unfortunately.
I am sorry, I hope this helps.
Darn, looking at the above I got unlucky!
Out of interest, who did your code came from - my message came from Megan.
I won't be ordering the ones from Ribble, I doubt they will be much of an improvement on my stock wheels.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

That's unlucky, hopefully mine will just scrape through and get dispatched?0

Mine have been dispatched for delivery tomorrow, seems strange that some price matches have been honoured and some haven't, mine was confirmed within 3hrs on Sunday evening, impressive!0

I guess it depends on the attentiveness of the person doing the checking?
rgh - I would certainly hope so, as they agreed to it, and then gave you the code, seems unlikely now that it would fall fowl of any other checks, as you would think it would just be an order in the system like any other.
Good luck!Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Had an e-mail saying they have been dispatched so think I just got lucky, yes your probably right. It just depends on the wiggle employee checking the price match and how thorough they check all the details.0

Now the big dilemma! What tires do i put on them? Do I go tubeless or not????
Decisions decisions???0 -
