Did Canyon messed up real good in the UK too ?

What's amazing is that this is not new.
The words 'Canyon' and 'delivery problems' have gone hand in hand for years.
The current problems are just worse than usual. And their total lack of empathy or 'giving a sh*t' is shocking.
It's incredible that despite that, they are growing exponentially and can't meet the demand, whilst LBS's languish and go bust.
Surely someone out there can market a range of bikes just as attractive, just as good value and pinch some business off them? Boardman? Ribble?
the recent problems with Canyon have certainly got far worse but in my experience of Canyon, they ve been keen and able to put right mistakes, at least as much as anyone else in the bike trade.
Because they now price in £, they no longer offer that added vfm that made them stand out, bikes from mainstream manufacturers are pretty much up there with them on value.
But what is happening now is unbelievable, i ve had my Aeroad order cancelled by them, despite NOT having requested this, they apologised and said they d monitor my order but because of their c0ck up, the order is delayed by 4 weeks.
i emailed them back, asking a few more questions, they ve yet to respond and tbh i dont think they will.
So, i ll give them a few days but if they dont come back to me with answers, then i ll cancel after all, they may not recover from this disaster.0 -
Has anyone received their 2016 canyon yet? My SLX ultimate frame has been on order since sept, with a due date of 21 march. So i'm happy to wait, as it's winter and I wouldn't be riding it anyway!
Cheers0 -

I disagree (although biased of course as i have an order in).
The bikes are still amazing value for money. With the exception of Rose, where else can you get a top end super stiff frameset, specced with higher end components bringing the weight of the bike under 7kg, for under £2700??
The problem seems to be their success. The popularity has grown on the back of excellent value for money and superb bikes, but they have obviously underestimated the demand and have fallen behind with supply.
In fairness, from what has been reported, they are taking steps to rectify the issues, although for some people this is obviously too little too late.
** note, I reserve the right to change my opinion if my order is delayed significantly0 -
Yeah, on value, just wait till a sale. My Supersix was £1200. If I want to knock it under 7kg it won't cost me much.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Does the de Rosa SK come out of the same mould as the Aeroad? Pretty similar style

well, thats what i thought but for starters, a Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 is 2599, and my LBS will take 15% of that, an equivalent Aeroroad or Ultimate is £2750 inc delivery.
the Giant frame (aside from ISP) is almost identical to their top end pro frames, c/w ultegra and full carbon modern wide wheels - 1420grams (made by DT swiss on Giants own proven rims) the canyons come with super narrow soon to be discontinued Cosmic's, M size is 6.92kg AND come with life time warranty on frame, 7 on Canyon, if they still exist by then!
the prob is their lack of customer care communication and planning, the move to a bigger factory, followed by an IT system that isnt and last but not least, the move into USA...... in other words, bad management.
things like this can finish a company off and you can bet your life the other mainstream players will be making hay whilst the sun shines!
edit.... just been told that due to infrastructure problems, my delivery date is put back by 3/4 weeks, no apology, lost all faith with them now.0 -
Any consultant will tell you that you need to keep the customer happy. It's eons old. It's on the 1st page of every book on customer service.
So why no apology? Why no gesture? If they were properly apologetic and offered some kind of freebie, carbon bottle cage, spare tyre, I don't know, Something, then this storm would blow over a lot quicker.
Their attitude suggests complacency and smugness and the feeling that if they lose this customer, another one will be along shortly.0 -

tbh i ve defended Canyon, based on previous experience but i feel like i ve been mugged by them
their new move and the IT system is, perhaps understandable and difficult to put right immediately but their total lack of customer service is inexcusable.
Anyone who sticks with their order, might well consider if they ll survive this and be around to support their products in the future.0 -
I spent a long time working in IT and IMHO moving to a new distribution centre and rolling out SAP in parallel is, well, mental.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0

If I was running the compay I would stop accepting new orders. Their willingness to cancel customers orders without doing anything to retian the buisness is plain acceptance that they are under serious pressure. New orders piling in every day when there are months old orders yet to be filled just seems to be snowballing matters.
I have no regrets with my cancellation and my new bike (a better bargain than the Canyon I ordered) should be with me this week.0 -
I swear the canyon team are run by teenagers. They are effin puddled, the lot of em0

Couldn't agree more. I'm in the market for a new road bike atm with a budget of about £1800, so have spent quite a lot of time recently shopping around. With the amount of money you can get off a Cannondale, Cervelo, Giant etc. from either a high street store such as Evans or even an LBS, why would you bother going through the hassle of ordering a Canyon?0 -
What a shambles... I ordered my bike (an XL Ultimate CF SL 9.0 which was showing 'in stock') over 3 weeks ago, received an order confirmation straight away and then heard nothing. After many many attempts to get through to the service centre on the phone, i finally got through yesterday and was told that due to a system error, my order had not been processed correctly and payment had failed. I finally got a new order confirmation and payment link through (which i paid immediately) and have a dispatch date of between 25/1 and 29/1.
Living where I do in Brunei (SEAsia) I am seriously limited in what i can get hold of in my size, otherwise i would have cancelled my order long ago. I love the look and spec of the Canyon bikes and they IMO represent great value for money, but by christ, their customer service is appalling.
I'm waiting with fingers crossed that my order does not get delayed beyond the given dispatch date but after reading the horror stories on here, i'm not too hopeful0 -

priced in Dollars, the bike you want is about £1500 and similar in Euro's, as you say, great value for money, so CS can slip BUT in UK it is nearer£1900, we are just being ripped off by Canyon, my order has also been delayed again.... no explanation or apology.0 -
I totally agree about the pricing. Some have suggested it is purely down to the strong pound but i'm not convinced.
Even so, pound for pound i still see them as the best value for money bikes (with Rose).
I'm sure they will get the customer service issues sorted. However, I do not see any improvement for delivery performance in the near future. They have had the same delays for years so i cannot see that changing. But again this brings me back to the point that if you are buying one you should be prepared for a wait.0 -
I assume that Canyons base currency is € given that they are a German company? If so that should make them more competitive when selling in sterling. The euro is at roughly 1.35 today whereas it was 1.10 maybe two years ago.
If they were selling a bike for €2000 it would equate to:
€2000/1.35 = £1481.48
€2000/1.10 = £1818.18
They should be more competitive then ever.0 -

Yes, is not very good for exporting at the moment0 -

True, plus I avoided having to pay any VAT on it. In fact the bike has cost me 1379gbp. Unfortunately a 370gbp shipping fee has bumped that up somewhat but unfortunately, for me, in this part of the world, that's pretty unavoidable.
ANYWAY - Lo and behold - I've received shipping confirmation and tracking numbers for the bike today, due to arrive next Monday! Excited much!?0 -

The bike is €1500 and they are charging £1900 in sterling? If that's the case then they are massively taking the mickey. They should be selling at about £1100.0 -

Staggering.
Despite cancelling my order on 4th Jan, and having email confirmation from Canyon, they've just replied to the email send 23rd December:
'I can see that your order has now been manually cross-checked, and we must unfortunately communicate some extremely unfortunate news. It has now become apparent that there was a stock shortfall, and the bike you ordered is sold out.
We are very sorry to have to communicate this disappointing news, and appreciate your frustration given that you have already been subject to an extensive delay.
Moving forward we can offer you a 5% reduction of the cost of any 2016 bike provided that it is of equivalent or higher value. We can also offer to remove all shipping charges from any future order you make.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed.'
I have replied:
'Incredible
Not only does this exact bike still show on your site as available from stock - https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/inflite/2016/inflite-al-9-0-s.html - but I actually cancelled this order on the 4th January. You replied to that cancellation stating I would receive formal cancellation within 24 hours. That never happened.
So perhaps you can explain how a bike that is still showing as in stock, is (so you claim) actually out of stock, whilst you’re still no doubt accepting orders for that very model.
This couldn’t be any more inept.
Guy'
Insane. They're telling me the bike is out of stock, their web-site says it's in stock and people will be ordering based on their website.....Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0 -
Hmmm, isn't this (^^^^) illegal?0

Isn't it because they are set up for the European market ? (i.e. Brake set up wrong way round)
which means the bike have to be re-built ? I maybe wrong.....0 -

I'd expect anyone landing on the UK site and seeing a bike as in-stock to expect it to be.....and for their hugely expensive SAP roll-out to know the stock for UK and Euro builds....Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day.
