And Truss.
However, don't make the mistake of applying reasoned argumentation to populism. Or, in Trumps case borderline fascism. All the staggering hypocrisy in the world makes no difference whatsoever to the usefulness of the argument.

This. Shouldn’t be a story but they’ve turned it into one so we can forget about Musk, Putin etc.

I'd forgotten about Truss (thankfully!)
I think that was part of what made the Democrats tactic of calling Republicans weird quite successful. They realised that reasoned arguments were pointless, gentle mockery was far more likely to rattle their cage.

Why would some random nobody from the backbenches showing up and being ignored be more of an issue than the ruling party of the country organising people to go campaign?
I truly believe they just haven't come to terms with the fact they are now in charge.

Truss is an ex pm from the ruling party, at the time she was over there.

Which is worse, and I don’t see why anyone would want her help, but still not as bad as the current chief of operations of the party in charge.
I don't think it would raise an eyebrow if Blair suddenly said he'd prefer Harris to win.

It's a position taken by former republican presidents.

Yeah, I can only think of Pryor who'd have wanted her help in Brewster's millions.

I think this is misleading. Labour as a party were not organising this. Members of the Labour Party in their own free time were organising it as volunteers, not as Labour party staff/members or under the directive of the party. Tory staff do exactly the same, I personally have no problem with anyone doing so on their own time and at their own expense.

Harris isn’t complaining about Starmer and Lammy meeting Trump and Vance.
0 -
That's cos Harris isn't a whiny egomaniac.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The head of operations for the labour party was organising it.

It is pretty common. The Jack in the Box chain nearly went under in the 1990s having earned the nick name Ecoli in a Box.

I guess McD's might be regretting the stunt now.

It could definitely be seen as being organised by the party even if it was an informal arrangement. This was the post on LinkedIn, which apparently was subsequently deleted:

I know that but she wasn't doing so within her remit as HOO for Labour, she was doing so in her own free time on a voluntary basis. Like I said, I have no issue with anyone doing that regardless of their political views.

Am going out on a limb to predict it's not remotely illegal in the US.

Robert Buckland has gone on record to say that he thinks there's nothing out of order with this.

I don't think anyone is seriously saying it is wrong/illegal - my point is about the optics, especially if Trump wins.

It's okay, he has dementia so he's already forgotten about it.

Given Trump's already said he'd impose a 20% tariff on everything imported including from the UK, and that he's going to cosy up to Orban, Xi, Putin, Kim Jong Un and Hitler (unless he dies in the meantime), I think Starmer and the world will be more concerned about the 'WTF Are We Going To Do Now?' scenario.

I'm not sure we should spend too much time worrying about the optics. Trump clearly doesn't GAF about anything but his own glory.

Which shouldn't be surprising given what he's got to compare it with according to Stormy.

We still have a relationship to maintain with an ally and major trading partner. Trump is known for holding grudges and wanting to 'settle scores' so it was a rather unwise move in my view given the election race is still pretty close.
At the very least it should not have been associated with the Labour party role of the organiser.

'What if Mr Trump wins and is cross with us?'
Late stage centre right politics is in a very sad place. Show some dignity.

I don't think anyone is worrying, it's just case of managing the future possible relationship. Let's hope its not necessary.
