I believe that dementia sufferers can have appalling short term memory but good long term memory.

There are no relationships with Trump, unless he's f*cking someone. And and soon as he's bored, he'll f*ck them over. I assume you are aware that pretty much everyone he appointed and worked with has told the world what a dangerous man he is.
But hey, carry on trying to score some anti-Labour points if it makes you feel happy.

Get a grip. This goes on all the time in both directions across the Atlantic. It's not news. Last time Trump was president, we had a balloon version of him floating over London and that wasn't an issue.

Anyone thing Trump as the next President is not a problem for the rest of the World is deluded.
Him first, America second, and fuck the rest.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I think both the BBC and the Telegraph are also doing their best to whip this into a storm. Obviously the Telegraph doesn't believe Labour have any right to be in power, but it's surprising that the seems BBC to following the same line. Well, maybe it's not so surprising if you take into account Robbie Gibb and Tim Davie.

I remember that one, it was quite amusing. But it didn't appear to be organised the the UK governing party.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]1 -
While pointing out Labour's mistakes is always fun, to be fair this was probably a case of the organiser not thinking it through. Political naivety seems to be a problem for Labour.
However as above - we have a relationship to maintain with the US and there is no point taking the risk of giving the potential next POTUS a reason to make things worse than it likely will be.
The other way you could look at it is that if he loses, then it's potentially another excuse that the election was 'stolen'.

It doesn't become any less trivial tbecause you wrote it twice.

It looked like you didn't get the point first time round.
It was easy enough to arrange things so it was clear this was not anything official/party related and it would still achieve the same effect (whatever that might be) on the US electorate.

Yup, it is another example of tripping up over what should be an easy obstacle. I admit I am surprised how badly they are doing with this sort of thing.

As mentioned above, possibly political naivety. Most members of the current govt have not been in power before. Who knows.
Although I would like to see some video footage of young Labour progressives doing a bit of doorstep canvassing in Pigpoke County, Arkansas or wherever it is. Could be quite amusing...

It's always been party related. It's just that nobody has thought to complain about it before.

Trump didn't complain about Starmer's state funded visit to speak to him being election interference, so we are getting sucked back into trying to make reasoned arguments out of this aren't we.

Another example which might help illustrate the difference is UK mercenaries going as individuals to Ukraine to fight for Ukraine: compared to the British Army going to Ukraine to fight with them. Same end effect, but Russia sees these 2 scenarios somewhat differently.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
How is that remotely the same? Are these mercenaries driving their own tanks across or something?

The strange thing is that the Democrats, whilst less right-wing than the Republicans, aren’t really that politically aligned with Labour. If you had a UK Party with many Democratic policies I suspect they’d be considered centre right. There’s not much market in the US for socialism.

Truss 🤣
“Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss told CNN on Wednesday: “I think it’s incredibly arrogant of the Labour Party to think that they have anything to offer the American people” – though Truss herself, whose chaotic premiership lasted just seven weeks, has broken with precedent by endorsing Trump and criticizing President Joe Biden since leaving office.”

How did she ever make it to the bottom of UK politics let alone the top? Thick as shit.

Voted in by the members like the next tory leader will be.

The perception related to whether it is official or not.

I note the lack of counter argument 🙂

No point us both repeating ourselves.
Given that his previous National Security Advisor thinks that he's likely to pull out of NATO I think we might have more important things to worry about if he wins.

There are bigger issues if he gets in, true. However not all will be easily avoidable, as this one was.

My take is we've no idea what he'll do if he gets in - yes that makes it a risk - but it's not nailed on he'll be particularly radical. No I'm not saying I want to take the risk but if he does win it may not be quite so apocalyptic as some of the predictions.
Perhaps he will actually help end the Ukraine war - probably not in the way Ukraine or most of us would like but it may still be in our interests.
Also agree with SteveO it's a bit naive for Labour to get involved in the US election even in a semi official way - and I'd say the same about politicians going over to campaign for Trump. There are echoes of Brexit in this - anyone that takes the side of Trump is beyond the pale - an uneducated bigot to be insulted and ridiculed - when things are close that can pi*s enough people off to make the difference

Well, I reckon the Telegraph is inching closer to backing Trump, so everything will be fine, I'm sure.

Well, this is what I see in Trump.

Also I reckon that sending a bunch of leftie Brits over to campaign against Trump/for Harris is probably not going to sway the electorate over there. If anything it might even help Trump...

He has the best make up. People come up to him and say "Sir, you've got the best make up, better even than George Washington!"
