Donald Trump

Just as a comparison, Watergate was in 1973, Nixon died in 1974, yet look at his citations in books. Seems that being President and a criminal gives you an afterlife. And Nixon was a saint compared with Trump - he even had the sense to resign.

This would definitely apply in the Brexit thread, where Stevo, a defeated remainer as we all know, should apparently have stopped posting years ago.pangolin said:There was a lot of chat about how people should stop talking about him after the election. Nothing worthy of discussion has happened since then has it?
I'm sure things will remain equally 'boring' on the Donald front for a little while to come.
Stevo why don't you lead by example?0 -
Who can argue with a president who has managed nearly a five hundred page thread during his tenure. I doubt Biden will even manage the creation of the honour!
I don't see a Johnson, Macron or a Merkel thread. He's been in the game with Brexit, Covid from the get go and has battled to the end!
Bravo!0 -
It's time for the Biden thread to be started so Trump can be ignored.0
-
Followed by a Harris thread?0

What do you talk about though? Being predictable and having an ordinary ego is a ridiculous strategy, it doesn't stand a chance!TheBigBean said:It's time for the Biden thread to be started so Trump can be ignored.

I think a lot of people are hoping that Biden will be a lot more boring than Trump. Who remembers Gerald Ford?1 -
Slight typo BT, Nixon died in 1994.
I would hope that, with time and perspective, the US might look at the 'checks and balances' of their system again. A 'democracy' in which an individual can exercise sweeping executive powers e.g. to overturn the justice system in return no doubt for a $n million contribution to the back pocket, is more like an autocracy. Particularly when the single individual is the likes of TantrumDonny.0 -
I can't think why people wouldn't want us to carry on talking about a right wing populist.0
-
Just turn this into a GOP thread. Plenty of lunacy to be found there.0
-
Not sure. Interest in US presidents always seems to be much greater and more widely reported than I would expect.focuszing723 said:

Can anyone name Gerald Ford's VP without looking it up? I've got absolutely no idea.0 -

See, he even manged to make Putin a non entity, just a side note in the discussion. Unbelieve, don't get me wrong the maniacal mob boss was inspired, but nobody even managed the effort to create a thread, the poor fella and he tried the top off Rambo thing!0

Has Biden not already said that he intends to serve one term only and being as Harris was being groomed to run in '24 anyway, it seems quite likely, regardless of Biden's health/age.0

I thought he had said that, but he denied it.ballysmate said:Has Biden not already said that he intends to serve one term only and being as Harris was being groomed to run in '24 anyway, it seems quite likely, regardless of Biden's health/age.
I read the other day that Senator Diane Feinstein has filed paperwork to run for re-election to a new six year term in 2024. She is 87.0 -

Thank god Stevo hasn't mentioned Corbyn since he lost the Labour leadership to Starmer.0 -

On the swamp - Trump made a big deal about an executive order in 2017 that stopped members of his government getting jobs as lobbyists after they have left government.

Not sure how Trump is particularly relevant to us after 5pm today. But you're free to carry on posting about him as much as you like. As are others who felt the need to reply to my point.briantrumpet said:kingstongraham said:Irony thread calling.

Hope is on the Telegraph. But that has to be a spoof right? Not even a blinkered Brexsh*t buffoon could believe that. Surely?kingstongraham said:

Given that the Constitution was predicated on righting the wrongs of having a monarch doing things on a whim with no democratic bar to overcome, presidential executive orders do seem to be somewhat antithetical to that aim.0 -
