  • Specifically :

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-aeron-full- ... softshell/

    and

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-aeron-rouba ... ve-jersey/

Gosh. Absolutely lovely. Excellent fit. Really really comfy. And cheap.

DHB code 2 used on the above took both of them to £100. Really impressed.

Way back when this was a DHB love in, I purchased from Bender his original Roubaix jersey.... just been out today in it and I forgot how lovely it is... hard to fault unless you are brand snob
  • Very hard to fault. I need a warmer top for CX so might just get another (dark) one.

Love my DHB Softshell. I'm almost wishing for the weather to go colder so I can break it out...
  • Next week, at least early AM, is way colder.

Perhaps you just need to go a little faster and you'll warm up. :D

  • A week or so riding in the Rivelo https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/pr ... /id/843968 Headley 3/4 and they're lovely. I don't think I'd pay £130 as I'd get some Tiburu with discount. But I'd certainly pay more than SP want for them.

Interesting, I've had a couple of Rivelo pieces from SP - Honister bib shorts and Newlands jersey - and can't say I'm overly impressed. I like the fabric (its nicely heavyweight) and fit of the shorts but the pad is nothing special. The jersey doesn't seem to wick moisture very well and I'm left with a very damp jersey and the sleeves refuse to stay in place, riding up almost immediately (my guns are obviously too big  )

Have got some RH+ 3/4s on my way from SP so looking forward to seeing what they are like

Which pad do the shorts have? From what I can make out these appear to be an Elastic Interface either Liege Men or Liege HP.

Its a grey pad, there's a pic on the road.cc review http://road.cc/content/review/165704-ri ... bib-shorts Its not too bad if I slather on the chamois creme. I bought some Castelli velocissimo shorts around the same time and find their pad much more to my liking (they were reduced on wiggle, so essentially the same price as the Rivelos)

I suppose this is a difficult question to answer as I dont think they make them in this style anymore so unless youve got the old style around, but has anyone found Foska's old style winter jackets a bit boil in the bag variety, they are very warm, which is great, but not remotely breathable which is bad as you end up, well boiled.

would a softshell be better ?

Probably, but not that much better.
  • Rivelo use the Bastogne HP pad, I've got the shorts and 3/4s and find it really comfy personally. I like all of their kit that I've bought actually.
So now I'm in the market for a soft shell do I go for their Garsdale jacket or the DHB Aeron full protection? Both about the same price. Has anyone got experience of both to compare?

Since my previous post I've written much of the review now and concur that it's the Bastogne. My mate raves about his Gardsadle, I rave about the Aeron. Based on RRP you're getting a better deal with the Rivelo but, as I lead with in my review, is the Sport Pursuit price the true price......

I have just bought the garsdale based on a number of really good reviews and the sp price. I want to use it for mtb and road so was keen to get a robust jacket. I like the styling too, but that is a personal thing.
Not been able to test in rain yet but have used it road and mtb this week, pretty cold and I'm happy with it so far.
I also bought the rivelo felcott thermal jersey too which also looks like a winner. Not sure it would be worth the rrp of £100 but at £40 looks good value especially if the dwr claim holds up.
Both garments are well made and the fabrics feel and look top quality.
    I will report back

I think it just shows the mark up in cycling clothing, the Hoy Vulpine summer range was massively reduced in their sale and then ended up on SP, but I guess they still make a profit. Realistically no one would pay full price when they've never heard of the brand, but long term they'll hope to build a reputation to be considered a premium brand. I love the bib shorts so much that I would buy a pair full price if I needed them, but others might choose one of the many many competitors in the same price bracket.
  • Did a quick bit of detective work and, I hope they don't mind me saying, Rivelo appear to be Sport Pursuit.

I came to this conclusion recently as well, you can't get the stuff anywhere else, it's their DHB?

I've bought a couple of pairs of the 3/4 bibs on the strength of your comments, I've got a couple of their items (see earlier post) and think they are good for the money.

I'm looking for a new winter jacket as my Sportful softshell is starting to come apart (only in non essential places like the rear pocket trims) so have pressed it into commuting duties.

I can't make my mind up about the Lusso Windtex jackets, sure they are great functionally but the look of it is a bit busy for my tastes, the fluro yellow looks less in your face but I keep getting drawn to the red! Got great reviews and I quite like Lusso gear. Made in Manchester too.

  • I'm probably going to get some stick for this, but (as per a post a page back or so) I ended up ordering a pair of Velocissimo 2 bib tights and I can see why the Sorpasso was mentioned as being streets ahead - but I still wouldn't be able to stretch my budget anyway. That being said my only real gripe is that I'm feeling a bit more breeze around the crotch than I'd like - other than that they're very comfortable.

I know this is an arse backwards and budget solution to a problem, but are there any cheap unpadded lycra shorts that I can chuck over the top for the morning i.e. colder commute, then chuck in the jersey pocket for the return? Alternatively a close fitting MTB short might do the job.

Yes, their website takes you to sp to purchase. I wonder if anyone has ever paid the full rrp or does everyone think they have got a discounted price! Lack of transparency in the pricing is questionable.
Having said that, the number of independent reviews indicate the design and performance of the garments is very good. It's then down to the buyer whether they like the styling, aesthetics and if the cost price is considered value for money.

It is fussy but it's very highly rated.
