  • I recently bought this dhb ASV Race Roubaix Windslam Long Sleeve Jersey, and wore it for the first time on a couple of wet commutes last week (both directions!). I must say I was quite impressed, it kept most of the rain out and the warmth in - it is quite a heavy item, so hopefully good through all winter with appropriate layering.
My commute is about one hour ten/fifteen, so quite a decent test - but this was straight out of the bag so not been through the wash yet. It is Windtex, so I presume not a DWR coating that might wash off.
I wore my old Rapha Pro team jacket on yesterdays three hour blast in the arctic winds, and that still holds up well after a few years of use, but the dhb fits a little better (I should have bought a size down with the Rapha), and the collar is higher so gives better protection on the neck.

I like that one, Mrs has a women's version and it's excellent, you'd get away with wearing it a lot. Good value as well. I'm torn at the moment between getting an Aeron gilet to match my new jersey (the one with the stars on) or getting the ASV thermal one. The latter appears better but doesn't match the jersey :D

I bought a set of Specialized road defrosters in a summer sale. I've found Specialized make the most comfortable shoes for me, and have fancied a pair of winter boots for years. Have worn them a few times now (at least twice when I was a bit too warm if I'm honest). Yesterday evening it was 3.5C and raining when I left work, and my feet stayed warm and dry! Luxury.

I was also wearing the Aldi winter gloves, and they kept my hands pretty warm and dry too.

This morning it was around freezing when I left the house, and I was in the Aldi lobsters and my defroster boots with two pairs of socks. The lobsters took a bit of getting used to, I seem to want to hold the bars and levers in ways that are incompatible with lobster gloves. I have sram double tap levers, and a couple of times I tried to change down a gear with only my middle finger while leaving my index finger on the brake lever. That doesn't work with lobsters and I ended up changing up a gear instead!

I think last night and this morning are probably the most comfortable I've been in those sorts of inclement conditions, so that's good.

Thanks for the glove recommendations Bender.
  • Yeah, I used my Aldi normal gloves at 2 degrees yesterday and I'd say that's about where their limit is, for me. So any colder I'll use the lobsters.

  • Hi,
could you help me with the DHB Performance Fit sizing ? The official Wiggle size chart is very poor.
I’m 189 cm tall, 103-4 cm chest and quite long arms. I use Castelli short sleeve jerseys in L-size and they fit snug. Is the DHB sizing similar to Castelli ?

Does anyone have dhb Classic Long Sleeve Thermal or dhb Breton Long Sleeve Thermal in Large and can measure the front lenght (zipper) and arm lenght (both from armpit and from top of the shoulder) ?

dhb size small, but Wiggle have a good sizing widget that willl remember your measurements and reccomend a size. I have the Aeron tops, which I got in XL, even though Itake a L in most tops.

On the subject of Aeron, I wore my full-protection softshell for the first time toady. I got in the sale (£60) last spring, by which time it was too warm for it. The cars were iced up, so I felt a bit smug heading off. I had a thin merino base layer, and it was enough for the cold weather over 14 miles of cycling. I almost hope it rains tonight to see how 'full' the protection is.

I've found DHB and Wiggle sizes to be accurate. Castelli sizes are pretty random.

"sizing widget" ? wow where can i find it?
  • It's sometimes there, sometimes not....

For you I think large is correct, I find most dhb sizing descriptions to be right now. I made the wrong choice with the aeron rain jacket earlier in the week, should have gone medium.

Thanks bendertherobot I think I will go with large.

Meant to ask; how did you get on in that field in Wales on Sunday BTR?

I've heard good things about the Aldi winter gloves except my nearest Adli is 25 miles away.

I doubt it, but one can easily be fashioned out of an old sock.

I seriously wouldn't move to Gala!

Will be in Stranraer next month, luckily just passing through to catch a boat to Belfast

You mean you're not going to pop in for a coffee? Miserable basket.

    Why not Gala?

Hoping for a late night ferry from Cairnryan. Cheaper. Tight basket an all.

Have you been to Gala? Try Innerleithen instead, I regularly cycle through there. I'll pop in for that coffee.

Do that. PM me nearer the time.

Soz Bender - Hijacked your thread again but then you're not about and you're big and mature enough to know that this is your thread and your thread alone and won't mind a jot.

Right, back to Stoat apparel. Do Rapha do Stoat Softshells?

    Not softshell. Would Roubaix do?

    Funny that.

What's the low down on Roubaix tights - sub zero stuff BTR? MY Endura's are a little, let's say...worn out. Is there anything in the between the Rapha/Assos and the Aldi price range that would do the bizness or do I go out and buy another pair of Endura? Are there bibs with a bit of padding for not too silly money?

Oh and BTW, I don't believe you:

You are either lying or you ended up frozen (and filthy).

I've been very impressed with Lusso Tights and have been wearing them for the last six or seven years, taking them off occassionally.

Occasionally? That's what you can do when you live in the Tropics.

Lusso Max, Lusso Repel, Lusso Windtex, Lusso thermal, Lusso Roubaix, Lusso Super Roubaix...?
    seanoconn - gruagach craic!
  • Seriously, it ended up being bright, sunny and about 10 degrees. Virtually no mud either.

Tights? Seek out some Lusso like these, which are fine for sub zero IMO https://www.merlincycles.com/lusso-max- ... 81363.html

or just get whatever dhb aeron you feel but the deep winter ones are probably overkill

I did wear it today in rain for 14 miles. Fantastic. BEtter thatn the Vulpine Epic Cotton water rersistant trousers I wore on my bottom half, which are still wet as I type, no "beading" apparent.

I want warm. As long as the fit is good, who cares about stretchy? Can you point me in the direction of a sizing guide please? Ta.

What are folks wearing on legs for 5 degrees C (ish) and rain for 2-4 hour rides? Nanoflex type tights or something softshell?
