Disc brakes in the Pro ranks.

It's almost like the bike manufacturers who sponsor teams want us to spend more money on our bikes to make us feel less inferior.

They will cut themselves on hot discs.

I am going to hold off buying a new bike until the Hungarian genius invents disc brakes that don't heat up.0

Or a hidden KERS-type regenerative braking system to power the hidden motors?0 -
I hear a carbon disc is in the works. So Pros can go back to having crappy braking in wet weather.0

They have fairly high operating temperatures no?0 -
Very high. Hopeless cold.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0

but carbon discs so much lighter and undoubtedly more aero...0

I'd get yourself a new crankset first, like"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Millar having a moan as he was implying that no Pro riders were consulted int he decision to allow discs in Pro races.
He seems to have missed the entire back half of last season where teams could test out discs in races and feed back to the UCI as to whether they should be allowed or not. Furthermore, just because they ARE allowed does not mean the are compulsory.0 -

saw a few pro bikes headed to riders today, Specialized will be fielding a few disc equipped to various riders, some pretty big names too...0

Millar has not been riding in the peloton but has spent the last 12 months poncing around in Maseratis, launching his new tome, launching his new clothing line, doing interview after interview, promoting the Rouleur Classic thing, launching his new Ride-with-Holy-Dave-for-the-price-of-your-home, and right now, promoting on Twitter the latest obscenely expensive development on Park Lane (only Russian/Chinese/Middle East billionaires need apply)
Frankly, it astounds me how he might find even a tiny opportunity to be the expert on consultation with todays peloton0 -
Millar's retirement is rapidly eroding all the goodwill I had towards him as a pro.
I'm sure this is a source of near constant regret to him."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Reduce the arbitrary weight limit and all the discs will disappear.
I think the UCI are working on introducing a safety standard rather than a weight limit."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

As I understand it, they already have a sanctioned parts list, based on safety/design rules, so the weight limit is fairly nonsensical. You can't say a frame is safe enough to ride and then say it has to be weighted with some loose chain links before you can ride it.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
Do they have a list of sanctioned bars, stems, seatposts, pedals etc too ? If they do then I agree a weight limit seems superfluous but I'd always welcomed it as a rough and ready way of removing some of the incentive for manufacturers to pursue low weight at the expense of longevity and safety.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Most pro CX racers still using Canti's even though their sponsors don't have commercially available canti frames anymore. I'm sure they'd all still use Canti's given the choice.0
-
It's just weight.
If you're dropping dead weights down the frame to get up to the minimum limit you might as well put that weight to good use, with better braking performance.
Advantage of discs falls away when the limit gets dropped.0 -
Cancellara won't be using them.
Cancellara doesnt use anything modern!
That said I agree with GVA a bit. They will take a while to bed in ('arf) with the pro peloton so if I was a person that focussed my whole season on the Sunday's around Easter I wouldnt be looking to change too much too soon either. We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

You don't think the isospeed coupler on the Domane is modern?0 -
So Roompot are running discs all season, while OGE have said they ain't touching them...0
