Riding as leader and fighting for a podium in 2014, Valverde finished 9:40 behind Nibali. Riding with Quintana, he's 5:25 behind Froome....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

Someone just told me that yesterday Froome said he was a human being first and foremost and should be treated as such. Just about sums it up for me.Contador is the Greatest0

Been a good Tour capped off by a great final mountain stage. I don't think many people predicted the big four still being there and in contention at this stage even if it was the 'wrong' Spaniard!
The French have been a mixed bag but provided some of the most thrilling action.
Chapeau to Froome, first yellow and polka dot since Merckx. The guy earned it today, or at least the team did.
What happened to MTN? they've slipped to 5th in the team rankings. They must have had a shocker yesterday since they've been 2nd for a while. SKY second now.0 -
Listening closely with headphones I think some of the crowd are shouting 'Froome', which sounds like booing. Similar to the crowd shouting 'Root' for Joe Root in cricket. Richie Porte is the one that seems to be the one getting the punches and most booing.0

Well don't take part in the desktop innuendo and insult directed at him then.
Hypocrisy comes so easily to you.0 -

..and if Quintana or Contador had green quoted as saying similar then it would be evidence of their quality as being superior people to Froome. I take it that the great Spanish rider is a cyclist first and human 2nd ? Slightly strange to view a professional sportsmsn's presentation of himself as a person above a sportsman as a negative characteristic.0 -

I'd like to see Contador focus squarely on the tour next year, give it 100%. Race will be better
Next year is his last so I don't think he has much choice than to go for one last Tour. Probably go on to end his career (GT wise) at his home race the Vuelta.
With regard to the abuse Sky got on Dutch corner, that's what happens when you give drunk, boisterous men a pantomime villain. I would guess that a big majority of the people giving Froome and Sky abuse along the way know that he is no more likely to be doping than a lot of others within the peloton. It's just given them an excuse to vent their frustration which has been building up for the last couple of year, i.e. the lack of genuine French GC hopes and their dislike that a relatively new British team has had such success so quickly.0 -
This tickled me:
35. IRLROCHE Nicolas 36 TEAM SKY 83h 50' 41'' + 01h 54' 08''
36. AUSROGERS Michael 46 TINKOFF-SAXO 83h 52' 46'' + 01h 56' 13''
The great Sky-Saxo road captain swap. After 3 weeks they ride into Paris just 2'05" apart, in 35th and 36th place.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
i'm enjoying BBC radio news: "Chris Froome has become the first Brit to win the Tour twice". That's got to be worth an appearance on Desert Island discs....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

It's noticeable that Froome's voice as changed in the last 2 or 3 days. More nasal, perhaps some form of infection from road spray. He did well to hang on.

When Bertie made comments earlier in the race about finding it hard to breathe, he was ridiculed. I don't see the difference here
Not sure why you are all attacking Frenchie, his comments have been even-handed (it's all relative)0 -

I don't see what he's said there that's in any way bad. I read it as he agrees that Froome doesn't deserve all this vitriol, a bit hypocritical given the personal attacks he constantly makes but nothing more."Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -

Exactly this...which is how 99% of normal people would read it.
You wouldnt spit etc on a man on the street you don't like so just because he is doing a sport doesnt justify it even more. There is a minimum moral acceptability which doesnt change.
Being Dutch they were likely tooled up on weed as well which also helps explains things, nasty things drugs.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Finally he speaks. Checked his site several times this Tour.
The thing with the Giro is that he had to do 75% off the efforts himself as his team were poor and Astana were on fire. Whereas Froome has ridden wheels of his strong team for vast majority of crunch points.
Probably trained too much...he was going on monster mountains raids.Contador is the Greatest0 -

The fact he gave it a go you have to give him respect. I for one would like to see him lunching searing attacks against Quintana and Froome in the tour.0 -

Would be a shame for him to retire at end of 2016 if he won Olympic RR - imagine all the bling bits of kit he'd have for the next 4 years, if nothing else...0 -

Yeah his style and attitude would really lend itself to the spectacle. He beat Quintana at Route du Sud before the Tour so surprised he is so far back...cummulative fatigue most likely.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Nail on the head ; )Contador is the Greatest0 -
Quintana made the classic youthful mistake of not believing he could win it.
Contador around 30s slower than his Alp d'Huez average of 42 mins.
This. Quintana is a much better climber, pure climber, and they will rue their ommissions. They did go for it early on a few occasions but didnt have the killer instinct imo.Contador is the Greatest0 -

The difficultly for Quintana too is that this was the one that he was meant to win given it was climbing heavy. As you pointed out earlier in the thread Quintana would lose proper time to Froome (and Contador for that matter) if a 40k TT returns next year. Quintana will win the tour eventually though given his age.0 -
Yes he will have another couple of minutes to make up although Froome is TTing not as well as 2012 imo (so he can go uphill better). Hopefully they just put an uphill tt in it a la Giro : )Contador is the Greatest0

I think this misses much of the drama under the surface. Froome went all-in once, on the first mountain stage when he judged it would be most effective. Quintana went all-in once. On the final mountain. And for the same reason. If he'd gone earlier it would likely had much less effect.
The key to this race was Thomas. He kept the risk of firing the Movistar rocket too high for long enough. I found the whole thing fascinating....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0
