Bardet was 45s away from Mollema in 7th. Given that he finished 6th last year in a race that was missing the big three that would have been a hell of an achievement given the troubles he had in the pyrenees.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0

Lots of talking about how Quintana and Movistar were too late attacking. Perhaps, but would he have taken 1:30 1 week ago on Froome?
No, he wouldn't. Mixture of Froome showing fatique and Quintana looking better - as predicted, as last year.0 -
Worst game of shag, marry, avoid ever...
Disgraceful! They are a credit to the wonderful respectable British!0 -
ITV have confirmed Quintana lost the tour by the gap between Quintana and Froome on Stage 2.
But that doesn't take into account the effort that Froome will have put in on that stage and other stages to take a lead and to maintain it.
You can't say that if Froome and Teeny Tana had finished with the same time on stage 2 that the race would have played out the way it did.
It's fun to play numbers but it's not a scientific exercise.
Agreed."One thing that is worse than Carlton Kirby: people complaining about Carlton Kirby.
Talk about first world problems."

Well done Froome, terrific race well run.
Thinking back at the parcours, a TT light, mountain heavy course suited Quintana yet Froome was still the best rider, not forgetting Team Sky that supported him through thick and thin.
A riveting last stage, terrific climax to the race, just need Cav to provide the icing on the cake tomorrow - not going to happen is it.0 -

Watching some replays on Eurosport, it looks like Froome got a punch and another bottle of "something" thrown over him today. Valverde also sprayed (accidentally) with the same bottle. Shameful scum.

Blimey Maca, I didn't realise it was me that offered you the wager!
I'm now extremely disappointed you don't seem to have taken me up on it! :-(

One's not posting the envelope if there's not the odd skeletal howler in one's history. You appear to need the arbitrator, but Frenchie isn't logged on.

Happy to see Froome winning, he deserved it after all the sh*t he's had to put up with over the last 2 weeks. Great to see Quintana showing his talent again too.
Disgusted to see fans still abusing Froome and Sky for no good reason :?0 -
Gotta say Froome had me worried there, but what a win.
My PTP pick for GC was Quintana, but I am glad Froome done it.
Froome now proves, once and for all, he is a true heavyweight, no argument.Ecrasez l’infame0 -
Great effort by Quintana. In terms of time he was the best climber in the race. His time will come.
Superb ride by Poels yesterday and today (and Porte today). They were there exactly when Froome needed them.0 -

Great effort by both Sky and Movistar today. Very relieved to see Froome survive a terrific onslaught from Quintana.
Rematch at the Vuelta? It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

good point by imlach... the crosswind stage 2 that won it.
He must have read my post a few pages back0 -
any one else notice Quintana getting a push off a fan and poels pushing the fan away .0

Yeah, saw that. Couldn't decide if Poels was stopping him or if the fan was just in his way.0 -

I'm on my phone at York Races, but I nominate this for post of the tour. Because it sums up the whole tour for many of us in a couple of sentences.
Come on Cav!0 -

And every other stage afterwards where Sky increased and defended the lead won the race for Froome.
Sorry but I think what Imlach said is silly thing to say. Maybe it makes a nice journalistic soundbite but its methodologically shonky. No one knows what would have happened if the crosswind stage had been different. To say that Qunitana would have won and Froome wouldn't is monumentally stupid and assumes that everything else would have stayed the same which you just cannot assume.Correlation is not causation.0 -
The value of the echelon point is highlighting how the fine is the line between... That's what made the Tour for me. I think Movistar pushed Sky to their limit. They just held on. It was fantastic sport....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

Surely the point is that they cancelled themselves out in the mountains despite Froome being on another planet apparently? I understand what you're saying and I'm not sure if Froome would have limited his losses more yesterday and today if he'd had to but it does show how critical apparently straightforward 'sprinters' stages can end up being.0
-
I reckon if Froome didn't have the crosswinds advantage he'd have made more use of his good legs in the Pyrenees.0

It's the same situation as when Contador won by exactly the same amount he took out of Andy when he had the famous chain slip. No one knows how the rest of the race would have panned out.
I'm a fan of Quintana and I'm gutted that he didn't win it but I'm not going to pretend that he definitely would have won the race if not for the crosswinds.0 -
Just catching up on some highlights since I couldn't watch it live - not sure I've ever seen Quintana actually showing so much effort on a climb before.0

Anyone knows how long it took Quintana to climb the alpe?0

Anyone knows how long it took Quintana to climb the alpe?
Does that 23rd place include the cheaters of the last few decades or is that from (mostly) clean riders?0 -
