I know the circumstances are different, but there's a certain irony in Froome moaning about the MJ being attacked on the road to La Toussuire!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one whose ironyometer gave a bit of a lurch... karma's a b1tch eh Chris?0 -
Big fuss about nothing.
A) Not enough attacking as it is.
it's quite fun when it does happen nowadays because of A
C) can't make such a big song and dance out of marginal gains & your kit and then whine when it doesn't work.0 -

Don't let yourself get wound up. FF is like a cartoon character. If you get annoyed, just imagine Sid James in a powdered wig who's into cycling.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Sad to read this sort of stuff.@carltonkirby I was on Col Du Glandon yesterday and it was pure hatred towards @TeamSky in a bar today and non-stop booing. #tragic
I wonder whether Sky shouldn't take the nuclear option and boycott the Tour next year. I would have no problem with them doing that.
I'm in the middle of Fotheringham's bio of Mercx - the French hated him too. Froome should be flattered!
Frenchie there are plenty of reasons to dislike you too, or at least your internet persona, but I don't think you'd like it much if we all spat at you on the way in to work. It should be fairly easy to identify the guys that spat at Froome from the video I have seen, he should be taken in.

I'm a fan of Nibali but I don't know why he is bothering to lie about it. Everyone can see what happened.
Equally, why Froome is getting so hot and bothered about it I've no idea. If Nibali had attacked straight in front of him he wouldn't have moved a muscle to close him down and it only took about 20-30 seconds of energy to close Quintana and Valverde down. If anything it's a sign that the constant attacks from the media and French fans is starting to get to him.0 -
One thing we learned yesterday is that the bit in the film True Romance where Christopher Walken gives a big speech about all Sicillians being world class liars is clearly nonsense.
Absolutely
That was so inept it was beyond parody.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Just a couple of things niggling me...
1. According to ITV highlights, Froome did not see a man stand in the middle of the road and spit at him, or see a man right next to him on a corner make an obscene gesture, but he is absolutely sure that he saw Nibali looking at him whilst he was otherwise occupied trying to sort out the problem with his rear brake.
2. In the aerial photos, Nibali's team mate does seem to be in the line of sight between Nibali and Froome during Lookgate, which in my mind does offer a suggestion that Nibali's explanation might not be total fabrication.Half man, Half bike0 -

They all lie about these things, Contador attacking Schleck, Froome attacking Wiggins, Quintana ignoring the commissaire neutralising the descent. I guess if you admit to them people will be even more upset that not only are you not a sportsman but you brazenly don't care that you aren't.
If Nibali had attacked at another time Froome would have been in the group following, he may not have gone after Nibali but he'd have gone after the rest chasing Nibali. 20-30 seconds full gas in that situation is significant, go too far into the red and you can pay later, if Quintana had chosen to go say 30 seconds after it might have been interesting but luckily for Froome Quintana is riding conservatively.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

I have hidden your comment from our new Pro Cycling crazy French Au Pair who arrived yesterday from Reims, lest we have a forum based international incident0 -
Read all of Nibali's comments here as clearly no one has seen fit to quote them:

Glad he is my man. Glad he has won a Giro and Vuelta that Froome hasnt. Great comments. Proper racer.
See comments about Froome. The guy is an egotitstical bad loser with his lanky legs, no attacks, off-putting style and posh voice. The guy has clearly spent too much time in private school. Nibali's attacks is irrelevant from a GC perspective, Froome just wants a moan. The world does not revolve around you what what tally ho.
As for the bar and the Sky dislike. As I have explained to you already, there are obvious reasosn people never liked them.
This is the best one yet, lol Pure wind up merchant surely? Nobody seriously writes "my man" constantly too, ha.
To be fair to FF, a number of forum members write 'My Man'. I thought it was the done thing so I started using it to in an attempt to fit in0 -

Exactly.
The sportmanship rulebook gets chucked out of the window when it really suits riders in desperate situations. As in 1987 when Roche, Mottet and other top riders connived against Jeff Bernard - who'd just taken yellow with an amazing ride in the previous day's stage - to attack him when he got held up at a feed stop.
He lost four mins, the yellow, and eventually the whole race.
And that was premeditated, not a spur of the moment decision.
It's not necessarily *wrong*, it's merciless certainly but that's cycling.
Extreme situations call for extreme measures etc ...0 -
Also re. when a rider ships a chain: sometimes it's the rider's fault for a bad gear change; just like sometimes it's a rider's fault for puncturing cos they've ridden clumsily or carelessly.
Do you then have to wait for them? How are you meant to know whether it is purely bad luck rather than bad bike riding?0 -
Sportsmanship
Little things happen all the time...I noticed Quintana attacked close to a summit a couple of days ago just before some drink bottles were being handed out. Probably not a problem for others if they are well hydrated for the last climb, but introduces a possibility of an uncomfortable finish for a rival.Half man, Half bike0 -

There is a difference between the first and the latter two though. Nibali and Contador did not break any rules, apart from vague tacit understandings. If it had been open to interpretation whether Nibali had actually seen Froome having a mechanical then you can understand the reason for lying. However, when everybody knows exactly what happened then you are just making yourself look more foolish by lying.
Froome attacking Wiggins was against his employer's orders, while attacking on a neutralised descent is against written rules. So there is a clear motivation to lie in the latter two cases.
It's not a big deal, I just wondered why Nibali bothered to lie in this case.0 -

My Man is just a bit of fun and a gentle piss-take of FF (like the horses were a couple of tours ago). The implied ownership of riders and associated kudos and bragging rights when they do anything of note, the deliberate over-exaggeration of their worth ("My Man [neo-pro x] fetching bottles with panache there, showing real souplesse!")... It's all parody to detoxify the fan-boy culture.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
To be fair to FF he's made one of the best comments in this thread stating that Quintana is lucky there hasn't been a long TT in this years race.0

The 'My Man' thing is a bit of a joke. Perhaps started at the expense of Frenchie—like many of the ongoing jokes on here, like pictures of lovely horses—it has now taken on a life of its own and is as far as I'm concerned just a bit of harmless fun.
Here's the original thread:
http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40002&t=13013600
And this one was to have a collective 'My Man' for the Tour:

Why hasn't the French police been involved yet? Chris and Sky need stand up to this shi't instead of just calling it unacceptable.
Given the French Police seem reluctant to even enforce their own laws (Calais issues) for major problems, I wouldn't have any faith for them to deal with the spitting and associated issues. That said, it's incredibly difficult to stop. Even if Police were lining the entire route it wouldn't stop a determined individual acting.0
