You play the rules of the game, no rules broken. Don't see other sports hold up for someone who has a mechanical or similar type of problem. Sport isn't fair we should all know that. What is more annoying than a win by someone who made a negligible difference to the GC is the fact there is a bug going around the camp.

Some good efforts from others today tho

No one is saying any actual rules were broken only that people may be judged on their actions. That is all.

    That.

There aren't unwritten rules, you can do what you want within the letter of the law, and you can try and get away with some stuff (sticky bottles etc.) that are outside it.

BUT... You will be held accountable for it. Cycling is an eternal game of prisoners dilemma - collaborate or not, pull or suck wheels, ride or sit up. The riders know who's done what, and who hasn't, who will work with you and who will stab you in the back.

Nibali got his stage and moved up the GC, but everyone knows how he launched the attack, and cycling's self-enforced karma will come back to him.

age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.

I tweeted the image of that ahole spitting at Froome. Somehow Brian Moore (ex-England hooker) saw it and retweeted. It's now at 1100 retweets and still going. Blimey.
Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

And when di Canio is being cited as a positive role model, you know you've been a cnut
lol, it was a bit tongue in cheek really. The fact that Nibs is playing the 'didn't see it guv' card tells you all you need to know about what the peloton will think of his attack.

Which is a good reason for Froome to make sure everybody hears exactly what the jersey thinks.

I really don't see the fuss over the Nibali attack. He was miles behind on GC, Froome hadn't bothered with his previous attacks and had he tried to go with him he may have cracked and lost more time to the one rider who is still a danger. It was worse for Contador and Valverde who were trapped between losing places or following race etiquette by waiting for Froome. Gutted for G today, he's been great all Tour and one bad day has put him behind riders you'd hardly know were in the race.

So, is someone going long tomorrow? If Nibali, Valverde and Contador go for it on the first climb Nairo could really benefit going up the Alpe. Question is, will Valverde risk his podium place to force the issue?

Hahahaahahahha this is a race about technology, technology in training, technology in equipment and it's totally right to take advantage of failure in. Any one of those. Feck sporting its TDF WAR.

    GOOOOOOO NIBALI

Plus, it's good for the racing and for vendettas that last years. It's said that Nibali is still stinging about some slight from Wiggo in 2012. (I think he looked at him). That's next level grudgery. Froome's stoking the fire.

  • Completely missed today's stage because of work. Am too tired to read through 38 pages. Can someone kindly summarise what happened, who won and what all the thread drama is about please?

Call me boring, but I like the unwritten rules in sport - not just cycling but others too (golf and cricket spring to mind).

And if Nibali sees nothing wrong with attacking when Froome has a problem with his bike, I'm looking forward to him saying that he knew what had happened to Froome and decided that was the time to attack. But he's hiding behind the "I didn't see it" defence, which tells me he knows he was in the wrong.

And as another poster has said, the rest of the peloton will have seen it and won't forget.

More seriously, attacks from the off including some from the GC riders, which left Froome isolated. It all came back together in the valley before the Glandon.

Astana forced the pace on the Glandon, Froome had a minor mechanical, which Nibali used as an opportunity to attack. Thomas had been dropped at this point, never to return, and Froome only had Pouls to help. Nibali caught Rolland, the lone leader, on the descent of the Mollard, then dropped him on the final climb to win the stage.

Quintana attacked with about 5.5 kms to go, dropped everyone, Froome chased but conceded 30 seconds at the line.

Froome said some nasty things to Nibali, who claimed the Arsene Wenger defence. No-one believes him.

I would love to see that scumbag being introduced to Brian Moore who I am in no doubt would explain the errors of the scumbag's actions

Frenchie said some pretty shocking things about Contador. Some scumbag spat on Froome.

On the Geraint topic, after the stage he came out with a great quote along the lines of sometimes you are a hammer, sometimes a nail - and today he was a cheap nail from IKEA!!!! Think he lost something like 10 mins.

    I grinning at the moment.
Talk about history has put this picture of Nibali pulling today's stunt on Hinault.
I imagine them both after the finish line. 8)

Fair enough, but why lie about it? I'm not bothered he attacked at that point, but why say he didn't see Froome with a problem when he so clearly did?

Closest finish since 2011. Without the cross winds Quintana would need 58".

without the crosswinds froome would have taken an extra 2 minutes on Saint Pierre

Possibly. No doubt Froome is a worthy winner whatever has happened. But I don't think it's been as one-sided as some think. If G had cracked earlier etc. Very small margins.

I 100% agree with that. Apart from one climb Froome got his advantage from been smart and well positioned, which been strong obviously helps towards. What this tour has shown is that Froome and Sky are far better all round racers than most of us thought The first week they were near faultless.

I wonder whether Sky shouldn't take the nuclear option and boycott the Tour next year. I would have no problem with them doing that.

So if there were no cross winds and G had cracked earlier then Froome would not have won? ffs what crap, if it was not so hot and Froom climbed fatsr he would have won by more, If TJ had not been ill he may have won and if every other rider went faster they may have won also.
Use to like NIbs but gone off him lot last couple of years, he is more of a whinger than Froome, he moaned about Wiggo the same, looks like he is back on the wiz again .

Team Sky need to sign a few decent French riders. That would stop most of the hatred right there.

Why should they have to change their recruitment to appease morons?
