A few people on twitter may be arguing Froome is suspect but I'm not convinced they are really setting the agenda amongst cycling fans in general to the extent they seem to do so on here.
Oh they are, I'm getting it on Facebook as well, from Danish fans.
It feels like it's BR Pro Race Forum V The Rest Of The World sometimes.
And yes, TV2 in Denmark have also mentioned some of it, both in 2013 and this year.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
The real question that warrants speculation after yesterday's stage is why Nibali was so slow. For the rest there were perhaps some positive and negative surprises, but nothing spectacular. Nibali doesn't often have off-days. He seemed very strong in the TT in Utrecht and on the cobbles.0

Though he got dropped for 11 seconds on a tiny 6% climb at Mur de Bretagne. Think some us suspected the game was up for him already there. The cobbles were his target, if all the "big four" are on form then he's the least impressive climber of them. He tried there, but couldn't win anything.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
I can see the Gelderland, Welsh and Tasmanian tourist boards making the posters as I type.

Nice screenshots, thanks.
Here is what Vino said...not mincing his words.
This day was a catastrophe. Nibali couldn’t even keep the pace with Fuglsang, which I had expected him to,” a clearly disappointed Alexandre Vinokourov said to Gazzetta dello Sport immediately after the stage. “We gave the green light to Jakob to go ahead in the classification. Vincenzo needs a good mechanic because something is broken in his head.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Well, because in 2013 he beat Froome by around a minute if you don’t count the climbs where he was riding as a domestique for Valverde. That was in his first Tour.
Well that's literally the point I was making.
He's obviously a top-tier GT contender and I'd be astonished if he doesn't win at least a couple of Tours, but he's not so good he can expect to drop everyone else as a matter of routine (which is what you'd expect from some of the hysteria surrounding him).0 -
SKy are just dreadful at this game. Whoever they pick to do them will just be opening themselves up for a world of hurt to the point where it's not worth doing them anymore, the results will be leapt on by amateur haematologists the world over to prove whatever they thought in the first place and in the end, he's doing all this already through the Bio Passport. Also, no scientist is ever going ot say "yes! I am 100% certain that this performance is not chemically altered in any way!"
There's a reason Vaughters would only release his team's internal data to medically qualified types who could interpret it properly."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Dan Martin’s Tour de France Diary:
"I simply couldn’t push the pedals. I wasn’t breathing hard on the last climb, I literally didn’t have the strength to do anything. It wasn’t just me; the team’s other co-leader Andrew Talansky went out the back at the same time, so it was something affecting both of us.
Some might wonder if it was that the other riders were just much faster than normal when we reached the mountains. I know that wasn’t the case as I could tell from the figures on my power meter that I was well off my best. I was sitting at 260 to 280 watts on the last climb, not really that much power at all. Normally I would be at 350, 360 watts, so I was much lower than usual."

2. A cracking Adam Yates anecdote near the end. *Spoiler*

Yip, that had me chuckling on the train this morning. Those two are very promising. I'm wondering whether I can draft them into my team as a single person to avoid going all FF with my men...
In general the Cycling Podcast has been quality this tour, both the recaps as well as the KM Zeros. The only let down has been Ciro who occasionally sounds like he's been hanging with Paolini too much...0 -

Fromme blocked Vannieuwkerke on twitter.
Funnily enough, I'm reading his book at the moment about him training and living as a pro for a year to try and win the journalist Worlds.
I remember him recalling a story when he got caught on the wrong side of an echelon split, and he decided to just bridge the gap to the front group - partly because he had criticised riders for not trying it more often.
Says he couldn't believe how hard it was, and was quite quickly caught by his original group and laughed at.0 -
The guy who tried the hour for Sporza is doing the journo worlds in OUdenaarde this august, I may go have a look.
Incidentally, I'm thinking on about doing an hour next spring out of curiosity."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Both Nibali and Contador seem to be complaining they couldn't breathe properly, whatever that may mean...
There are some bad allergies caused by the unusual climate this year; certain plants a flourishing with nasty pollen. The missus is laid up at the mo with breathing problems and is on cortisone, so it is possible that Nibs and Bert are having problems.
Cortisone you say? TUEs ahoy0 -
I guess Sky didn't exactly give people a reason to hang around and party.
Dont know about the rest of you, fanbois apart, but I thought it was a great stage, with every reason to party. A plucky mountain breakaway, Movistar winding it up, Sky taking over, Valverde trying to take the sting out of Froome, Froome attacking with 6k still to go and Quintana trying to hang on, and Porte catching him for second spot on the line. Whats not to like?
Contador has no excuses, his team obviously prioritised the Giro at the start of the season with the Tour being an icing on the cake. There is a very good reason why the top guys dont try the Giro Tour double.0 -
Froome has spoken in the past of his heart rate not being able to exceed 170bpm, even when at peak power.

Wow. He genuinely is superhuman.
Not realy. In the club I used to run for we had a super veteran runner, over 45, with a resting heart rate of 40BPM. His max HR would have been about where Froome's is. And he was an old man in endurance terms. My max is 176 from a resting 49.0 -

Well I'm certainly not fit enough. There's a guy at my CC who has a resting HR of 40bpm, I believe. Apparently Froome's is around 29...0 -

It was hearing and not quite believing about Big Mig's heart rate that caused me to watch my first Tour de France. Was stunned and have been hooked ever since0
