TdF 2015 - Stage 3 Anvers - Huy *SPOILERS*

Just spotted Quintana as well. That is three of the top four in a split - would have been great if they prevented Froome from rejoining.
Sky go hard after neutralization - appalling sportsmanship, no respect etc...
Astana/Movistar/Tinky go hard after neutralization - clever racing, great tactics, True champions etc...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Thanks JP, I read the first 5 pages 'live' then caught up from page 20 onwards late last night.0

I thought it and even wrote it here - they were going bizarrely fast given the race situation and moments to go. 60km to go, break with no threat - very odd.
I think one of the Orica guys said 80kmph but he may have been exaggerating... it was downhill at that stage...
When I read that I thought it was a bit much then TJ says 80-90km/h which is even more crazy. Looking at the photos though it was slightly downhill:0 -

This seems to have been the common theme amongst the Bertie fanbois yesterday.
Loads exactly the same moronic, myopic stuff posted in their usual gathering places."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Thank goodness I have that dave bloke on block as he is still posting pure drivel. Looks like Blazing will be next for the remainder of the Tour as he is possibly the number one Contador hater and Frenchie baiter.Contador is the Greatest0

May have been mentioned before, but Tinkoff seemed to have control of the descent into Huy but one of their riders over did it into a corner and went hedgelaying (Kreuziger ?). After that, Froome was at the head of the group, which enabled him to pick his own lines down into town. Later he was joined by Thomas and that gave them a good position for that final climb.
Would Contador have lost so much time were it not for that mishap?0 -
Levefre's rants are always good value: http://www.nieuwsblad.be/sportwereld/cnt/dmf20150707_01765951
Says the race should never have been neutralised, the (Belgian) UCI commissaire should be sacked - also linking him with the Roubaix train crossing incident this year and Quintana ignoring neutralisation at the Stelvio last year - and promises that if one of his riders crashes today on the cobbles he will personally neutralise the race parking his car across the road in front of the riders

I doubt that changed anything to be honest.Contador is the Greatest0 -

The guy's a prickIt's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
I don't think pile-ups should be a routine part of cycling - I'd look into reducing the field size by 20-25%.0
-
as someone that has done crits with 100+ riders and never been hurt, its often about your positioning and bike handling and awareness.
sometimes, however, there is just nowhere to go. I think we will miss Cancellara, if he doesn't do one more tour, as there really (outside of boonen) no ne that can do what he does on a bike. I also think 2 spinal injuries in a year must take its toll mentally as well as physically. I hope to see him ready for the worlds, and then bow out in the classics next year.0 -

That video gave a real insight. With TV coverage you get the feeling the riders just jump back on their bike and ride off. It often seems like they aren't really hurt. Any idea why he was filming? Are they doing some sort of documentary or was it just something they do within the team?
I get the feeling that they gave up on a proper backstage pass today. There was 6 mins from the mechanic and then a 2-min video interview with Impey, Gerrans, and Alba...
I'd highly recommend the backstage pass videos. They've been using a mix of gopro (in/on car as well as bike) combined with race footage for a long time now. Used to my breakfast watching along side HTRWW... now there's no HTRWW and I'm struggling to squeeze in time to listen to about 6 hours of podcasts each day!
There is a proper backstage pass video from yesterday up now, very good too - starts off slow but they use a combination of tv, on-bike, in-car and mechanic footage plus interviews with the riders afterwards, it's really interesting.0 -

I'd agree. He didn't look great.0 -

Do you want to try and explain why we re wrong rather than blocking us? Blocking us suggests that deep down you know we re right.
FYI, "you need to watch more cycling" is not an explanationWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

After all the stick I have given Cancellara over the years, yesterday he rode like a champion and I respect him so much more for that ride than some of the other stuff.0

They should all ride mudguards.0

Well, that's up to you, but what was written was true.
In certain places, a load of abuse hurled at Sky, followed by praise for Astana and Tinkoff repeating the same act.
Hardly the stuff of informed, intelligent debate, more the stuff of the average 10 year old.
Nothing to do with loving or hating riders, just disliking the attitude of those who can resist the urge to express their double standards in text."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Grow up, you post more complete drivel and baiting than anyone on here.0 -
Did I miss it on the ITV4 highlights last night, or was there no update at all on the condition of crashed / abandoned riders?0

It's pretty simple. The Tinkoff move was quite a bit after the crash and neutralization. The Sky move was immediately after it. There are no double standards, there never have been, take your glazed glasses off.Contador is the Greatest0 -

So what gap is acceptable? 10 seconds? 30?We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

I didn't make any comment as to whether it was ok or not - I was just pointing out that the circumstances were different.
It's one of the things I find most fascinating about cycling fans. We spend half the time complaining there's no racing, and the other half arguing about whether the racing that did happen should have done.0
