Jess Phillips to Diane Abbott just now:
"As much as we want an election, I want to be a size 10 but I keep eating cake. You don't just get what you want. An election is not what's in front of us. Brexit is the thing that is in front of us. We have to show courage & leadership."
Interesting point on the Iain Dale/ Jacqui Smith podcast - it used to be a cardinal rule that 2 representatives from the same party would never appear on the same programme. If they were invited one would refuse as it was clear the programme were trying to set up a division. Now, all rules are abandoned.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Just shows the sort of sh!te 'democracy' is the dUK's where a v v small number of f-wits control the agenda, appoint their like with the end result of a Parliament full of total dipsh!ts who in the normal world would be told to GTF early doors."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." I calculated the number of MPs that we should have if we followed the Indian parliamentary model. Its about forty.0

Think it was a point about the number of citizens per MP. Not sure what the relevance is.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Statement from Corbyn.Even at this stage of the results, we have won Trafford council and are making gains across the country, including Tory heartlands. Throughout the campaign, we have been putting forward our vision of a better society, and the need to end the austerity imposed on our communities by the Conservatives, along with the Liberal Democrats when they were in the coalition government.
As well as local issues, voters have been talking to us about how the Tories’ shambolic handling of Brexit is overshadowing everything else. We will continue putting our case for an alternative deal to Parliament, and we will put that case to the European Union, because Labour does not want to divide people on how they voted in 2016, we want to bring people together.
I congratulate all the Labour councillors who have been elected, and I am sorry for those who were not successful. We will fight and win those seats back and, whenever a general election comes, we are absolutely ready for it.
I'm all for putting a brave face on things but that's just a denial of reality.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

May's doing much the same - trying to say that the message from the Conservatives' pounding is that they need to get on and deliver Brexit - even though they have lost most seats in Remain areas!0 -

Indeed. I think the leaver voter hasn't had many viable options this time round but suspect the European elections will be different.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I’ve left the Labour Party after nearly 45 years of service at Branch, Constituency and NEC levels, partly because of it’s continued duplicity on Brexit, partly because of it’s antisemitism, but also because its leadership is complete shit.

If it were the other way around we'd have ~13k MPs. Still unsure of the relevance though.0 -

The Tories have lost hundreds of seats across England. Their only councillor in Northern Ireland David Harding has also been Eliminated. @bbcnewsni #le19
Neither Conservative nor Labour (nor Lib Dem for that matter) have any elected representatives at any level anywhere in Northern Ireland“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

That's not really a comment that an intellectual colossus would make (though possibly you don't actually claim much intellect?!). I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that there are intelligent members of both the Labour and Conservative parties no matter how unlikely that sometimes sounds. It's probably not very intelligent to assume that there aren't.Faster than a tent.......0 -
