Surprised there is still no word on the new route for Stage 20, you would think teams would want to be recco-ing it well in advance of the start of the race0

Hansen rides again! He tweeted that he was awaiting the result of an x-ray a few days ago but sounds like that's all sorted...

Debusschere has a chance for a stage win this year I reckon. If he can last deep in the race.0

Dutch police unions plan to block the Tour de France in Rotterdam temporarily ('to the point where it is clear on tv that riders had to stop' they say), as part of a protest about pay. Rotterdam is about halfway in stage 2 I think

Yeah agree with this, seems all a little bit last minute doesn't it. You think safety checks happened months and months ago for the route. Did I read somewhere that they may included the Glandon and Croix de Fer again?0 -

That's what I heard and am hoping for (given that I'm staying just off the top of the Croix de Fer) but seen nothing official. You're quite right about the last minuteness...0 -

When the tunnel was initially closed in April it was planned to reopen again in June; since then the problem has been found to be much worse than first thought, in fact the ground is moving more quickly now than it was a few months ago.
The Marmotte has been re-routed over the Mollard and Croix-de-Fer and back to Bourg via the Glandon, that seems the most likely solution for the Tour although a lot of those roads already feature in the preceeding stages.0 -

Nairo Quintana has a VO2 Max of 90, according to the Spanish Informe Robinson programme.
That's nearly as good as the legendary Norwegian cross country skiers... Daehlie and the likes... but allegedly they also had very high hemoglobin... 17-18. Not sure how Quintana can get to 90 VO2 max with a much lower hemoglobin (I would like to think).
Either way, good for him!left the forum March 20230 -

The alternatives are roads that are used regularly in the race and will be used in stages the previous 2 days. I suppose it's not that last minute when the race won't travel over these roads for another month.
Same that the riders won't be too worried about recco-ing as they're very well known roads. The riders will be more bothered by routes they're not used to.0 -

Surely would be useful to Tourists/Residents to know what roads might be shut? I'm slightly harking back to the Velothon thread here, though this is ASO and it is in France...
Also, given that its clear that the existing route won't work why not just come out and announce a solution/alternative. Makes planning/logistics easier surely...0 -

At a guess they may be waiting until they have official road closures etc in place but I would imagine they know what the route will be and have told the teams what it is likely to be. For those that don't know the area it has to be either a climb of the Croix de Fer or the Glandon and they share a descent to get to the foot of Alpe D'Huez. So it's one of those two climbs with the possibility of throwing in the Mollard as an opener - that would fit in with the Croix de Fer.
Any alternatives would require a change of start town, finish town, cyclocross bikes or the longest stage this century.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

Trouble is the area is so sparsely populated that it won't make a huge difference to the residents - it's quite sleepy on a normal Saturday! They also recognise the massive boost to the local economy the tourists bring so it is something they can put up with. Unlike South Wales which is fairly densely populated.
For tourists, just think of it as having a plan B or a plan C (given that plan A is the original race route). Plan A we will be on the Telegraphe, plan B is us going to the start (most likely as we're now going on to Italy), plan C will see us on the Mollard or Glandon.0 -

Even though the stage was ridiculously short, there's no short way around.
Latest news: The Bourg school kids on the wrong side of the tunnel can now enroll in Briançon,
having not been to school in 2 and a half months.
