Hey - I have ridden 100k further than Thibaut Pinot this week! Although I have 3 KOM and he has 29 pages of them. And he did do Tour de Suisse last week.0 -

Yes, I was struggling with that... can we just be clear then which one is which...
Sylvain is IAM cycling - that's like the dog food stuff...
Sebastien... is the one in question0 -

Sebastien Chavanel is a pretty decent sprinter and Sylvain's younger brother. Both were in the Brioches La Boulangère team in 2003 - 2005 He was with FdJ for a long time but then they dropped him and he got a ride at Europcar. However when Bouhanni/Demarre came through FdJ took him back as a lead out man - and that is his role now - Demarres last man- although on this tour team only lead out man! - although Bonnet and Vaugrenard are well experienced at 33 and good at positioning0 -
Dutch police unions plan to block the Tour de France in Rotterdam temporarily ('to the point where it is clear on tv that riders had to stop' they say), as part of a protest about pay. Rotterdam is about halfway in stage 2 I think

Sigh. Not sure why they are going to that country which has little to commend it in any case.
To add insult to injury the best race in the World is also starting in the Neds. For you Anglophiles, the best race in the World is the Giro d'Italia.
Ned officials must be shelling out boatloads of money for this.Contador is the Greatest0 -
I have to ask, why do you hate the Netherlands so much? You're not Flemish are you?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I don't hate it at all. I just don't think it is worth taking a GT there when there are far more interesting and nicer places to take it. Money talks though I suppose.Contador is the Greatest0

The fact that, as a nation, it spends more per capita than any other on cycling infrastructure. That it has more journeys by bike than any country in Europe, that it's professionals have a huge history in both the Giro and the Tour and that it provides a unique tactical test for the GC teams are all pretty good reasons too."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I don't deny those reasons other than the first one. From a sporting perspective though I think it adds very little. Amstel Gold race is probably the most boring of the entire year.Contador is the Greatest0

No that rubbish around Surrey is the most boring race of the year. But Amstel gold isn't far off"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -

On The Netherlands as a place to start grand tours, I'm not gonna wade into that debate, but personally some proper, good echelons are equal to mountains or cobbles for spectacle0 -
inrng's guide is up

first time I've realised how mountainous this tour is - 6 MTF doesn't tell the whole story
I haven't been watching long, but this looks like the hardest profile I can remember0 -

The Cauberg sprint is amazing. Every time. Big ring climbs are one of my favourites. Although having that stupid flat part after is ridiculous (they either cant get away from flatness or they just need a larger area for the commercial side of things). Whether I like Gilbert or whether he likes Amstel is irrelevant to the debate.
It's no surprise that Ned riders are consistently rubbish. For how many riders they have in the WT they punch massively underpar.Contador is the Greatest0 -
The climb at the end of the TTT could spell disaster for a team that loses a climber either through an earlier crash or a mistake. You might be limited by your fastest cobbled rider.

Yeah it's going to be a very interesting stage this one. Incidentally yesterday I watched the closing stages of the 2011 Galibier stage that A Schleck won. Interesting from two points, firstly I'd forgotten that that's the only time I've seen Evans attack and do the bulk of the workload, lol and secondly Contador finally cracks at about 3km from the finish. Looking at the four Alpine mountains stages back to back I'd go along with Evans assumption that it wouldn't be a surprise if we see Contador slip off the back there given the Giro efforts.0 -

Stage wins and wreck it in week 1?“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
Few titbits from Dutch TV. Some program with bespectacled jokers who like cycling.
Lots of talk of shaving legs.
Jonny Hoogerland admits he's rubbish at it (lots of cuts ) but says the more expensive razors are not so good as "they are made to shave faces".
When asked where he stops, Lars Boom point to his nipples. "Even around there?" Asks the joker, rubbing his crotch.
"Definitely, the Mrs loves it".0 -

That would show some balls, as that's where the police protest is planned. Not sure Bertie has this in him

I think they've missed a story by not finishing below sea level. The Netherlands' name literally means "Low Countries", influenced by its low land and flat geography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level.[16] Most of the areas below sea level are man-made. Since the late 16th century, large areas (polders) have been reclaimed from the sea and lakes, amounting to nearly 17% of the country's current land mass.
And as for the complaints about road furniture, where are they all supposed to sit? With a population density of 407 people per km² – 497 if water is excluded – the Netherlands is a very densely populated country for its size. Only Bangladesh, South Korea, and Taiwan have both a larger population and a higher population density....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -
Is there not a chance the Netherlands will sink with the addition of all these people and bikes  :shock:0

He has got stronger this year and seemed to be going well in Romandie on those leg sapping stages - how much he can be a 'domestique' though...?? I'd take him
