Campervans? What about your boss's Tuscan villa?
Can see why a few of the rich teams are annoyed however I guess this rule change has two benefits.
One, it levels the playing field somewhat between the haves and have nots.
Two it will also make nefarious activity a little more difficult. I am in no way saying Bertie did anything wrong overnight during the Giro, but if a team did want to give a rider a "boost" at some point during a race then it would easier to do away from a team hotel.0 -
Dunno if old news but - @Procyclingeu: #tourdefrance Col du Telegraph and Col de Galibier is out of the Queenstage of this years TDF. Massiv rock slides have damaged a tunnel :?0
-
Man, some of those mountains would collapse if that caravan of buses, cars, media equipment, etc. is adopting motorhomes for several of the riders on each team as well..0

Yeah, the marmotte had to find a work-around too. A few years ago, there were floods and landslides in the Pyrenees that closed the Tourmalet, but there was (just) enough time for a proper fix to be made by the departament hurling cash at the problem. Had a ride through the Ardennes today including a gorgeous bit of fresh tarmac laid along the valley towards Huy for the Tour. Phwoooooar!
Ran in to the ZLM tour too (that is we got shunted to the side of the road by the outriders and got curious looks for trying to beg bottles from team cars that passed us on shortcuts."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Road book, anyone?
I'm a little concerned that anyone on the forum can obtain anyone from the organisation's phone number from it, but what the hey.

It seems its the tunnel down to Bourg D'Oisans just after the Deux Alpes turning that's closed. There's a crack in it!
Marmotte is taking the montvernier hairpins, then the mollard and croix de ferre. NOt sure about the Tour."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Considering they probably need to keep the start and finishes in the same place, and a similar stage length. Then I would assume they'll go up the Glandon, or Mollard/Croix de Fer (again). Just seems a bit easy compared to Telegraphe/Galibier. Maybe they'll alter the stage length and put another climb in there.0 -
Marmotte has more climbing metres on the new route, but is a little shorter!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

So what does the Bikeradar collective think? Watch Stage 18 finish in St-Jean-de-Maurienne or on Lacets du Montvernier? Never seen a Tour finish, but have seen starts and been on climbs before.0

And more recent reports are pessimistic: 250,000 tonnes (or 100,000 cubic metres) of mountain is shifting by 10cm a day ... more here, if you can read French... they say that the TdF will likely go via the col de Glandon to descend into the vallée de l’Eau d’Olle to get to Alpe d'Huez. http://www.lemedia05.com/tag/tunnel-du-chambon/0 -

Yes I think it will have to be as you say, Glandon or CdF, still a two HC stage and possibly with the Mollard too which would be about as tough as the original and with a better descent down to the Alpe.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -

I think I might have read they won't be allowing fans on the Lacets. Something to check? It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
I'd imagine the helicopter shots of the Lacets will be better than being there, as they will fair fly up the mountain.0

You could record that and watch it back later.0 -

You've made me actually look at the route for Stage 18! If possible I'd do the Lacets and then pedal down into town. Finishes aren't ok but I reckon you'd get more viewing time on the uphill. Can always hop your bike and cycle into town after to see if there are any buses/riders about...0 -

Wouldn't surprise me. Literally tens of thousands of people crammed on to a 3 km climb with very narrow roads isn't a good idea. It will make proper attacks almost impossible.0 -
Thin legs Froome on his Pyrenean recon:
Contador is the Greatest0 -
Nice piece of Pinot (in French):

He is looking good and training very well. 1.5kg lighter than last year and his power is up. I hope he has a good race and can hold his own.

Anyone know the roads at the end of stage 2? I have spent time in Flushing and Rotterdam and the wind can be pretty bad. The last 50k after Hellevoetsluis look incredibly exposed to the on shore breeze.
Possibilities for time gaps on all first four stages - indiv prolog time trial, cross-winds, mur de huy, cobbles0 -

I'll have a look and decide closer to the time.
Will get plenty of opportunities over the three days to watch the racing. I reckon we could get to 4 different points to watch stage 19 without really busting too much of a gut. So it's not a big deal.0 -
MTN-Qhubeka's team is confirmed. Nice mix of riders. Hoping they get a decent result.
