BREXIT - Is This Really Still Rumbling On? 😴

DM is very upset about the jocular nature of Dutch customs1

It very much depends on Trump. If he keeps this going, it will rumble on. If he doesn’t, his type of rallying voice only comes round once in a while. I never quite understand it, both Farage and Trump are odious to me but for whatever reason they strike a chord. Those types aren’t ten a penny and the movement will die. See UKIP sans Farage.ddraver said:It will be interesting to how much goes back in the box over the next 4 (8?) years.
As I hinted at up thread, I can see Cruz et al attempting to make a clean break now and with nowhere to go, the trolls may go back under their rocks again to talk about the Illuminati on 4Chan.
But also...
Trump hates losing and has gone down kicking and screaming. If he thinks he can get the top job back, he’ll carry on, if he doesn’t have the hunger for it, he’ll walk away knowing (in his head) he was robbed. He’ll then move forward to his next thing. Hopefully a failed legal defence.0 -
They are the most prepared of any nation UK included.surrey_commuter said:DM is very upset about the jocular nature of Dutch customs
I didn’t think the vibe was jocular.

So youre not a fan of democracy then? Or is it only democracy if the right candidates are chosen?rjsterry said:

Political dynasties have less to do with democracy than they do with the cult of celebrity or, at least, for the politically unsavvy "that name rings a bell, I think I've actually heard of them, I'll vote for them".0

I think there are are bigger external risks for us than the USA for the time being.rjsterry said:

If people want to continue fretting over the internal politics and conflicts of the USA then they're free to do so and there are also other countries (and given the thread this is in, supranational organisations) to choose from"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Given that Brexit encouraged Trump, Trump encouraged Bojo...
I think it is quite relevant to see where the trajectories head. They are not tied together but there is a clear relationship.0 -
as in uk 'democracy' where getting a minority of the vote results in a majority in parliament?david37 said:rjsterry said:

How fecking dare they blame anti-brexit establishment. It's been a Tory government for 11 years and 18 months of Boris in charge. Brexiteers are the establishment.rick_chasey said:Lads, we’ve f@cked it

Here is another beauty:
"The Brexit trade agreement is “pretty much unworkable” for UK supermarkets, MPs have been told, as problems mount in the nation’s food supply chains and gaps appear in fresh produce aisles."
And
"In some cases the time taken to complete paperwork on a lorry load of goods bound for the EU has increased from three hours to five days, the House of Commons Brexit committee heard."

I had a conversation with a caller today and discovered that the best way to describe what he has to do to move his goods to N.I. (yup, within the United Kingdom!) was to say it's basically* the same as what he has to do when he moves goods to Qatar...
(*The difference being there's a nice website for N.I...)We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

You're all being very negative. Just give it time. Will you still be singing the same tune in 50 years?

It's shows that Brexiteers were right to want to get rid of EU bureaucracy.ddraver said:I had a conversation with a caller today and discovered that the best way to describe what he has to do to move his goods to N.I. I forget what the solution to this was - was it that we would start eating lots of langoustines?rick_chasey said:0 -

It is quite surprising how these people on the front line do not understand freedom of movement.rick_chasey said:Lads, we’ve f@cked it

What about the people who keep on believing them?
This is also a real live example of why mindless optimism does not work. The article quotes somebody moaning that they had 4.5 years to prepare which forgets that for most of that the assumption was that we would have the same or better access to the SM0
