I always think a season is defined by how a team performs in the third quarter. If Boro keep this momentum up over the next 10 games, auto promotion is nailed on.

    Will Derby choke again?

Yep, at least today anyway :D

Our game in hand is against Blackburn so not a bad situation to be in.

I'm enjoyjng it while it lasts. The Championship is too tight and unpredictable for anything other than a nail biting second half to the season. But this looks like Boro's best shot at promotion since they last dropped out the PL.

Looks like us and Boro didn't fancy the distraction of the cup. I'd be gutted if Derby, Hull, Burnley and Ipswich pick up injuries and cards.

Let's be honest, either of our teams would have to be pretty jammy to win it. So best do a tactical bail out now and concentrate on the automatic promotion slots :)

Yeah, but in the last draw we and Man City were in the last 4 balls. I'd have loved to have drawn them at home.

Just have to try and get promoted then.

I see Cardiff now joined us crashing out too.

We managed to turn City over last season so there's no reason why you can't :)

The last league match of the season could still be a tense affair...

I honestly think you'll be up by then. Hopefully, we'll be safe in top 6 too. We're on relegation form at the moment though.

I had to chuckle at where we'd be bound if we'd have beaten Hull. You missed a cracker.

Disappointing that, but still second with a game in hand over Burnley and Brighton.

Just so long as you win that game in hand. Seem to recall last season a couple of those in contention for promo and playoff spots had games in hand and failed to get the points.
Any how, Boro need to get promoted otherwise the North East could be bereft of any Premiership football next season.

It would be good to go up and pass the Geordies and Mackems in the way down. Something worth putting a bit of effort in for :)

A double result if we go up and pass Palace on the way down. The trouble is, we need at least one NE cub to overtake them.

it could work in your favour though. I understand he's not keen on £20m Rhodes and Downing. A new fella would be more likely to play them? I still think you would have gone up automatically. Seems mad from here. At least Derby seem to have decided to play the choker again.

But in the meantime his assistant Agnew is in charge, no idea how good he is. And any manager walking out will be unsettling :?

Time to face the fact he is going. Biggest problem is who do we get to replace him? God forbid we get Mclaren back again.

Maybe we should offer Giggs his management berth. Would be ideal place for him to start. He is never going to get the top job at Utd and the worse it gets for them the harder it would be for him to bring in success. At the Boro he has a pretty decent squad to work with. An understanding supportive chairman and very little pressure to succeed. If he gets us up he will be a saviour. If he fails we can just blame Karanka.

    Good point.

No way McClaren again, he wasn't that bad when he was at Boro but more recently couldn't cut it at Derby with a decent budget and made a right pigs ear of Newcastle. Giggsy is not a bad call, although I was thinking the other day that if Mourinho got bored and wanted some interim work...he is good mates with Karanka at least. Dream on...

Even when we won the League cup and got to the UEFA final Mclarens teams were a little boring to watch. If it were not for JFH and the little guy we wouldn't have got half the success under him.

I read that Steve Gibson is to have talks with him on Tuesday and could possibly stay, but once a manager has lost the dressing room its very hard to get them back again especially if there is a history of rows and fall outs.

I just want us to sort this out one way or another. I don't want to be playing Newcastle and Sunderland next season

True, but it'll be 12 points in the bag if we do :D My only regret is we don't get to play them this season and sing 'You're going down...'

Boro could go for the dream team of Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville (both will be looking for gainful employment this summer).
Add in Paul Scholes and job done. Then just have to rename the club Salford City.

Much better to get a last minute winner than a first minute one. I know exactly how you reacted. Personally, I had a bit of a swear. I'd have preferred a draw.

Phew....looks like it is 2 out of 3 for the automatic promotion slots.

And weirdly all 3 of us have promotion (the title) in our own hands.

If and when you watch the highlights of the Albion, you'll be surprised to know Fulham played us off the pitch, for the first half hour.

We have high hopes for the next 2 games, QPR and Charlton then it's all down to pressure and bottle.
