I'm off out for a ride shortly then going to bed around 10.30.

I've lost some weight but not a significant amount.

How do the atheists explain the fact that man is by nature religious?
Even Charles Darwin said that "a belief in all-pervading spiritual agencies seems to be universal" (Darwin, Descent of Man, Part iii, chapter XXI).
In his second lecture on the Origin and Growth of Religion Professor Petrus Theile wrote the following:
"The statement that there are nations or tribes which possess no religion, rests either on inaccurate observations, or on a confusion of ideas. No tribe or nation has yet been met with destitute of belief in any higher beings, and travellers who asserted their existence have been afterwards refuted by facts. It is legitimate, therefore, to call religion, in its most general sense, an universal phenomenon of humanity."
Sir Robert Anderson writes the following:
" 'AS soon as man grew distinct from the animal he became religious.' No one gifted with a sense of humour could have gravely penned a suggestion so grotesque as this. That the remote descendant of an ape might become intelligent, philosophical, mathematical, musical, poetical, scientific - all this possibly we could understand; but why should he become 'religious'?" (Anderson, The Bible or the Church? Chapter II, p.12).
And it's starting to look like non-belief, agnosticism, and/or apathy is the next evolutionary step for religious belief. Should be interesting. But there will still be people like me around, to prove it false
I didn't go for my bike ride tonight, had to read my prayer instead. Well, I'm not dodging posts, I just don't want to keep repeating myself. And sometimes when the answer is obvious then why should I try to give my opinion. Sometimes I don't have the strength or energy or time.
I'm not going to ramble on about god and evolution. I'm off to bed I'm drained and tired, will be reading my pre-dawn prayer tomorrow morning and will try to go for a bike ride around 6.30 if I feel up to it.

Okay. How many times a day do you eat and are they big or small meals, how much do you currently weigh and are you thin or overweight etc I've had 3 meals today, I'm being honest, I come home and had an evening meal, I couldn't do anything after that I just sat on sofa for few hours on eBay and internet looking for materials for my dads house project. What drinks do you recommend for drinking throughout the day at the office and after how long do yu think I'll start to see results by doing 30 mins of cycling 5 days a week.
Please advise, thanks.
Will reply tomorrow.0 -

What someone else weighs or eats is irrelevant. 30 minutes of gentle cycling will do nothing.
It takes me that long just to get from Cranleigh to the top of Pitch Hill. Which is a more than 1:5 gradient. It hurts.
Then I do an actual ride.

Ah i must have missed the papal decree removing vanity from the list of deadly sins.
Cody: the weighing scales are a very poor tool for assessing health. You could wrap yourself in clingfilm, sit in a sauna and "lose weight". Healthy? Absolutely not. Eat lots of fish, eggs and chicken, lift weights, "put on weight". Healthy? Yes, as you would be increasing lean muscle mass. Its all about body composition, and the scales cannot differentiate between water, fat and muscle. How is this relevant to you? Because you are in such a massive and dangerous calorie deficit that you are bypassing your fat stores and turning to muscle tissue for energy. This is why you are "losing weight" (muscle mass) whilst appearing to still have your belly. Eat more, exercise at intensity more.
Anyway, apologies for interupting your day; you may now return to filling your head with nonsense, which combined with chronic malnutrition, may well lead you to a psychiatric hospital within 2 years. Get a fu(king grip.0 -
As said before you need to eat properly. Small meals 4 - 5 times a day and drink plenty of water rather than juice and soda. You need to eat a decent protein source, a complex carb source and good fat source with each meal as well as getting in veg and leafy greens.
Things to keep away from are processed foods, cakes, pastries, bread, chocolate, candy, soda (even diet) to list a few examples. I'd include ready made meals in this list as well. Look at the ingredients list. If it has something would can't pronounce or not heard off then move on.
Good things you can eat are lean meat such as fish, chicken, lean cuts of steak, potato, sweet potato, rice, small amounts of pasta, leafy greens, tomato, avocado, broccoli, fruit with thin skins, nuts, seeds, eggs, dark chocolate (70% cocoa content minimum).

Ref your comments about the origin of religion and man being predetermined to be religious the two go hand in hand.
Man would have shown religious tendencies long before he had the intelligence to understand the concept of God. They will have worshipped the sun and moon for example as they didn't have the scientific knowledge to explain the fact that the sun would still rise each morning and the Luna cycle would give a hunters moon.
This would lead to positive behaviour as continued worship would have given positive results (sun rises each morning) so naturally this positive behaviour would naturally lead to a greater development of religious tendencies. At this point there can be points of argument; either this was Gods plan to develop religion or this is scientific ignorance in the grandest scale.
I would be interested to see your views on God if God turns out to either be a higher being of ET origin or in fact man who has developed knowledge to alter space time continuum and travel back in time (see reference to Is God A Spaceman).Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

We're curious animals who seek answers.
We live in a world of cause and effect. We extrapolate this to 'life, the universe and everything'.
We're deluded animals who imagine there must some purpose to all of this.
We're full of hubris and imagine all of this must be for us.
We're terrified that, one day, the only thing we have, consciousness, will suddenly be gone and then there will be nothing. Nothing is terrifying beyond imagination. So we invent stories that say, don't worry it will all be O.K. there isn't an end.
The more religious you are the more you're scared of death.

Aside from all this crap, someone told me that Easter is the best time to ski at Whistler, whats your opinion Paul?
I might try a cheeky few weeks this season.
Apologies - I only look on here when I am at work so hadn't seen this HD - Easter isn't a bad time - snow is often good and later in the season is quieter. I'd probably avoid the actual holiday period but a couple of weeks at the start of March should (I offer no guarantees) be good. If you need school hols and cant avoid the holiday then late March can certainly offer up some good stuff. Who says man kind is predominantly religious. If a child is born and no one mentions god or religion to it for the first 20 years of its life, just teaches it maths and english and science and facts, will it be religious? No.
Man kinds penchant for religion comes from the tendency for bible bashing busy bodies to come and try and smash this nonsense into everyone's heads. Religious celebrations are based around pagan festivals which were based around harvests and solar observations. Religion is just a more structured version of what the first man started and should be waning as we know more and more about how nature actually works.
Antony Flew was a professor of philosophy by the way not of an actual science and his conversion back the theism is debatable as many believe his final work was ghost written largely by a friend as Flew was in very ill health at the time. An old philosopher who at deaths door reaches out to God for comfort would hardly be evidence of either God's existence or of intelligent design being "a thing".Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

The thing is, when I eat more than 2 meals a day, I can't budge. So I eat less. As you would know people who pray often or tend to eat less, it's part of our spiritual life.
One of the reasons is because the final prophet said, "one meal is enough for two people, so eat half of what is on the plate.", and he also said, "do not make your stomachs a graveyard for food."
The last quote basically means that our stomachs are not designed to be filled with food at any given time. And our bodies are meant to be food deprived to prevent toxins building up and to allow energy to develop, less equals more . Perhaps I'm wrong, I'm not a doctor but then again, who taught the prophets their knowledge, we believe it was god, and who taught doctors? it's books which come from unreliable sources made up in the most recent past 200 years. Of course I'm not saying it's all wrong but most of it is.
The final prophet also said, "if you have to fill your stomachs and cannot resist the desire to eat, then use 1/3 for food, 1/3 for water and leave 1/3 for air".
Now who taught him such a thing 1400 years ago at a time when science wasn't around like it is today, I'm talking about sophisticated science like the knowledge the prophet had, it was impossible for a man in the desert to have such knowledge without proper learning and education and the facilities, right? but he was the illiterate prophet who could not read or write and didn't have a science laboratory, they weren't around then.
Anyway, I eat a lot of veg currys like Okra, Daal lentil, pepper and potatoes, masala fish etc are currys bad for my health and do they increase a persons weight? Their not filled with i.e spices and stuff, just pretty plain currys with a little flavour to enhance the taste, things like tumeric powder etc I eat a lot of pumpkin seeds and flax seeds and raisins and Walnuts, pretty expensive stuff though I tell you. For about a tenner I get a fair bit and lasts about 2 weeks. But it doesn't really help. Just tastes good. I don't drink coke or lots of diluted drink, except water and on some occasions a Ribena. I eat salmon fish when I can, potatoes, greens and lots of greens, but I don't think I'm eating enough or maybe I'm eating a lot of it and I don't realise it. I don't touch chicken a lot because I hold this notion that I'm going to put on weight. But anyway.
Just at work.0 -
Why do you say salmon fish? Everyone knows salmon is a fish. Stop it.
If the prophet filled 1/3rd of his stomach with air he must have been pretty flatulent. Or belched a lot. But yep - he definitely set out some pretty scientific dietary advice there - no way anyone without a science lab could work that out.Cody wrote:Perhaps I'm wrong, I'm not a doctor but then again, who taught the prophets their knowledge, we believe it was god, and who taught doctors? it's books which come from unreliable sources made up in the most recent past 200 years. If I read this right (and sometimes your outpourings aren't that easy to decipher), you are saying that the scientific writings of the last 200 years that provide the basis for contemporary dietary advice are wrong but you are the one who ignores it and cant ride his bike to the end of the road without having a little dizzy fit and a sit down?

Cody, really spiritual people don't need any food - they can live on air and sunlight alone. So you are obviously failing with the spiritual stuff.

You need to make up a food diary for a week as clearly you have no idea what you are eating and how much.
You need to stop using your belief as an excuse for your eating habits and stop contradicting yourself in terms of how much you should eat and how much you actually eat. With all due respect the prophets are not expects in nutrition, not now and not hundreds of years ago. God didn't teach them about maintaining blood insulin levels and the insulin index of foods which is key to keep off body fat.
I've come across plenty of professional athletes with similar beliefs that don't have an issue with their eating habits. If 2 meals a day stuffs you then halve the amount and eat 4 times.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

Cooldad - just a little extract taken from a chapter in the final revelation which I read every other night, or every night if I can. Reading divinely revealed verses like below, give me the fear of committing sin like fornication, adultery, promiscuity, cheating and lying. However that's not only the way which one keeps away from evil things. Sometimes it's how disciplined the person is and if he/she is clever enough to understand what god is really trying to say. It's about self control when you are near promiscuous women or naked women in nightclubs and in public places. It's how determined you are to not do something which god says, will harm your own soul. We as believers believe everything god says has a benefit, otherwise he wouldn't say it. However, there is a love of that fear which we want more of. People or, some people like atheists and darwinians fail to experience that fear except when death approaches them, they fear the worst, so I've been told. My level of spirituality is not the level I want to be at, however it is like anything, it grows with faith and as the years go by. Jesus (peace be upon him) said, "you will not enter heaven unless you become like little children pure in spirit and nature." So, we as believers have to reach a certain level in life in order to enter heaven. This world is the cultivation ground, for the hereafter. However the level I'm referring to is what Jesus said "like little children", is not achieveable by everyone so if you do not achieve it, then god as we know him is the all merciful and only by his mercy he will admit an individual in to heaven, and not by the individuals deeds alone. He forgives all sins but death is maatter between god and the deceased alone. But it doesn't mean we should stop doing deeds, we should keep trying to improve our character. Certain things I believe hinder us in our path to enlightenment, some of what I've mentioned above and some I haven't. We believe these are obstacles god puts in our path to test us and our level of faith to see if we will still believe in him through easy times, and not so easy times. It's my prayer time now and will chat later, want to go for a bike ride shortly. I had a burger today so don't feel too good. I might have some shredded wheat before I go out. By the way I needed to order another front light for my bike but I've left it too late, if I order tonight it will come by Monday next week. However I have the option to pay 1st class. I was just wondering if 2 would be convenient as I just think it's not enough to be seen with just the one.
In the name of Allah, the benificent, the most merciful;
Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving;
And for those who disbelieve in their Lord (Allah) is the torment of Hell, and worst indeed is that destination. When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath as it blazes forth. It almost bursts up with fury.
Every time a group is cast therein, its keeper will ask: "Did no warner come to you?" They will say: "Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we belied him and said: 'Allah never sent down anything (of revelation), you are only in great error.'"
And they will say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!" Then they will confess their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire.
Verily! Those who fear their Lord unseen (i.e. they do not see Him, nor His Punishment in the Hereafter, etc.), theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).
Surah Mulk (chapter 67, The Dominion)0 -
