  • I eat porridge ten minutes before getting on my bike for a fairly hilly 17 miles every morning with no ill effects. If you have nothing to eat before a ride you will just crash, it's like trying to drive a car with no fuel in the tank, when it's empty you're going nowhere.

Same here re the porridge, enough to fill you but not so much that your bursting, give it 10 minutes and go ride. This is either commuting to work (7.5 miles) or going on a Mountain epic, your body is a machine that needs fuel to work efficiently, simple.

Really? I'm assuming, then, that you have no idea how creepy the quoted sentence is.

Some of the most religious people I know are also some of the most racist, so no surprises there.

I meant to say nice girl walking past, I didn't want you thinking I was on about the man opposite her, so had to make it obvious and put white in the sentence, dumbo.

    1) They're both white - it wouldnt have made a distinction between the two
    2) Surely the defining word would be girl, if you didnt want us to confuse your lust

    Dumbo

I suggested you have a meal before cycling and your brother is not entirely correct (IMO).

Fatty foods and too much protein prior to exercise is a bad idea, they are very slow to digest - but a carbohydrate based meal such as cereal/porridge made with water will provide you with quick release carbs after eating which should be food for your body to use. Even a slice of toast and jam would be a start. Yes, you might want to wait 5-10 minutes after eating before heading out and not have an enormous bowl full but if you go and ride and expect to be able to perform well having not eaten since the night before you will struggle and your body, starved of energy reserves to power your muscles, will turn protein to carbs (as its easier to do that quickly than fats) in order to power you - counter productive in terms of muscle building and fat burning as that protein comes from your muscles.

You should (assuming your bike ride is actually worthy of being called a work out) have a light carb/high protein snack after to refuel the body and help the body build and repair muscles. A serving of chocolate milk (or soya based versions if milk isn't in your dietary constraints) is actually a very good recovery drink. I tend to make a smoothie after a ride to do the job but will buy a choc milk if I am in the right place to do so.

Hmm how am I suppose to lose weight if I eat, before and after a ride, at lunchtime and then an evening meal. That's like 2000 calories or more which sustains weight not help lose weight. and plus I only cycle either in mornings or evenings at the moment.

So basically this morning I've had a banana before I went out, came back home after 20 mins of riding and had some water, went back to sleep, felt sick in my stomach. Then woke up and had porridge in milk, not thick porridge but thin using semi skimmed milk. I'll try with water soon, never tried that before. I'll be turning to Soya soon, you should read about the dangers of milk. I'll explain it some other time. So now I'm at work, I've had a tuna and pasta layered salad low calorie and fat at 2pm, and some fruit. Then just having a Ribena throughout rest of the day or water and when I get home I'll either have a potato and leak soup tonight, or have nothing and just have tea and coffee instead. I've also bought a Mars chocolate drink which is 244 Calories. I think that's a good idea, I'll have a slice of toast in morning with some jam and a banana and then have porridge when I get back.

You see when I lost weight back in 2011, I felt very weak after 3 months of cycling, I shrivelled down from 12 stone to 10 stone and I couldn't even write with a pen, I was on 1 meal a day then. But you know something, it was healthy food, like fresh soup and salmon fish and only vegetables no meat. I can't understand why I felt so weak but I think it's as you've explained above, "starved of energy reserves to power your muscles, will turn protein to carbs (as its easier to do that quickly than fats) in order to power you - counter productive in terms of muscle building and fat burning as that protein comes from your muscles."

Some pics of it before I changed the seat couple of week back. Rubbish quality pics taken by iphone 5. Previous Carrrera pics were taken on Nokia N8.

By the way, I think Cooldads not telling anyone, but he owns a Carrera Fury with a Green seat post clamp, Am I right?

Sorry, but this just has to be a pïss take. Nobody can be this thick about food. "I was on 1 meal a day then... ...I can't understand why I felt so weak..." This has to be a wind up.

Now that you have, no. I own a dozen or so bikes, including a 1980's Carrera road bike, but not a Fury, and none of my bikes have coloured seat clamps.
Not that I am homophobic or anything, but that would be effeminate.

Mine are all either manly black, or rough and ready silver.

The manner in what and how you write has considerably changed from when you first started posting.

Talking bollox you are, leading people on and creating a 'character' you have done.

Can you lot start telling me your stories of how you got in to mountain or road biking and how you coped with pressure and day to day work life balance and other tasks and how you increased your fitness. I've already read some stories on here like the guy who has a disabled wife and manages to do lots of cycling which is very inspiring etc Rockmonkey does 17 miles uphill and I've seen some of his pictures and his bikes which look really nice.

Cooldad, whats your story, share with us please.

Do you have a 9-5 job besides having an interest in bikes? What do you do to keep occupied during the week? Just a general question ..
