All I saw there was "blah blah blah, same crap as before blah blah blah"

Serious question. How are you going to feel on your death bed when the moment comes and you realise your just dead, no afterlife, no virgins or whatever it is Muslims believe (sorry I'm not being deliberately rude, I don't know what you believe will happen)

Seriously, do you honestly think that my grandparents who died in their 90's and were married for nearly 65 years and were atheists didn't have a healthy fulfilling life? Only religion could have brought them that? You have to try and see the otherside Cody. It's ok you saying we're steadfast in our belief and all that crap. But not even trying to understand other opinions and points of view is pure ignorance on your part

I think you are missing a point the size of Everest.

Many people are not as hung up about sex as you are (normal people don't actually use the word fornication in actual conversation), equally most people do not cheat or lie, and don't need an irrational fear to stop them doing it. We were just brought up properly.

That you assume the worst of people who don't follow your own, somewhat bizarre beliefs, is both unbelievably arrogant from your side, and incredibly insulting to those you slight.

Is that what your god fearing prophet expects of you?

Because if so, it's not a very good advertisement for religion.

72 virgins upon martyrdom. Personally, I'd prefer 3 or 4 slags. It'd be a much better party without all that coy fumbling and mild panic.

You need to make up a food diary for a week as clearly you have no idea what you are eating and how much.

You need to stop using your belief as an excuse for your eating habits and stop contradicting yourself in terms of how much you should eat and how much you actually eat. With all due respect the prophets are not expects in nutrition, not now and not hundreds of years ago. God didn't teach them about maintaining blood insulin levels and the insulin index of foods which is key to keep off body fat.

I've come across plenty of professional athletes with similar beliefs that don't have an issue with their eating habits. If 2 meals a day stuffs you then halve the amount and eat 4 times.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. The prophets had no body fat, the food back then was 100% natural and full of bursting nutrition and wasn't processed, so they had no reason to fear fatness unless they became over indulgent which they didn't. The prophets had flat stomachs, they weren't big eaters and only ate 1 meal a day. In a quote earlier on this thread I quoted Jesus who spoke to a man and told the man he had distracted him from his worship when the old man pulled out a piece of bread for Jesus to eat, after having nothing to eat for several days and weeks, except water of course.

I would be interested to see your views on God if God turns out to either be a higher being of ET origin or in fact man who has developed knowledge to alter space time continum and travel back in time (see reference to Is God A Spaceman).

This is the test my brother, in this life, to see if we fear our lord unseen, and in the hereafter and on the day of judgement, is a great reward. God will call those who worshipped him without never having seen him and will promise them a great reward. The reward of paradise my brother, where there will be no grief or sorrow, and therein each time we taste of it's food, it will taste better than the last time we eat of it, and everlasting life, and women who are pure and have never been touched and if a single teardrop fell from their face in to this world, this world would be filled with light, these are pure women for men who behaved in this life and were obedient to their parents and to god and to their wifes. Paradise is surrounded by hardships and hell is surrounded by desires. We have to strive to work hard. God has made a promise to us, and he never fails in his promise. The final revelation says in relation to the universe, "and indeed we are it's expander". Again this is sophisticated science which was revealed to a man who could not read or write 1400 years ago in the desert. It is because of verses like this revealed hundreds of years ago at a time when science was in it's infancy that made people like Dr Maurice Bucaille convert to the truth and thousands of others in the same field.

You have a seriously unhealthy and, quite frankly, unpleasant attitude towards women.

Do you believe they were the pinnacle of physical condition? Doubtful. You only need to look at how physiques and conditioning has developed over the past 20 years to see this isn't the case.

I have no doubt they were lean - malnourished no doubt. Food full of nutrition? More than likely as it have been proved due to over extensive farming that the nutritional content of mass grown fresh foods is decreasing. However I would imagine the range of foods available would be small hence why I stand by my statement of malnutrition.

This is all irrelevant as we're talking about your eating habits and not that of the prophets.

i will feel happy I am leaving this world and going to meet my lord who created me.

The final prophet said, and this is an excerpt from a book I've finished reading last night,

When the believer is about to depart from this world and go forward into the Next World, angels with faces
as bright as the sun descend from the heavens and sit
around him in throngs stretching as far as the eye can
see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits at his head
and says, "Good soul, come out to forgiveness and
pleasure from Allah!"Then his soul emerges like a drop
of water flows from a water-skin and the angel takes
hold of it.When he has grasped it, the other angels do
not leave it in his hand even for the twinkling of an eye.
They take it and place it in a perfumed shroud and a
fragrance issues from it like the sweetest scent of
musk found on the face on the earth.
Then they bear it upwards and whenever they take
it past a company of angels, they ask, "Whois this good
soul?" and the angels with the soul reply, "So-and-so
the son of so-and-so," using the best names by which
people used to call him in this world. They bring him to
the lowest heaven and ask for the gate to be opened for
him. It is opened for him and angels who are near
Allah from each of the heavens accompany him to the
subsequent heaven until he reaches to the heaven
where Allah the Great is. Allah, the Mighty and
Majestic, says,'Register the book of Myslave in 'Illiyun
and take him back to earth. I created them from it and
I return them to it and I will bring them forth from it
    again."
'Hissoul is then returned to his body and two angels
come to him. They make him sit up and say to him,
"Whois your Lord?"He replies, "MyLord is Allah."They
ask him, "What is your religion?" He replies, "My
religion is Islam." They ask him, "Who is this man who
was sent among you?" He replies, ''The Messenger of things?" He replies, "I read the Book of Allah, believed
it, and declared it to be true." Then a Voice from on
high declares, "My slave has spoken the truth, so
spread out carpets from the Garden for him and open
a gate of the Garden for him!" Then some of its
fragrance and perfume comes to him, his grave is
expanded for him as far as the eye can see, and a man
with beautiful garments and a fragrant scent comes to
him and says, "Rejoice in what delights you for this is
the day which you were promised." He asks, "Who are
you? Yours is a face which presages good."He replies, "I
am your good actions." Then he says, "0 Lord, let the
Last Hour come soon so that I may rejoin my family
    and my property!"

And paradise is the reward my friend, so I've got something to look forward to. :)

Why does everything you refer to come from a book? Why not experience things instead?

Plus you didn't really answer my question.

To do so would mean thinking for your self and accounting for your own actions, something that many forms of religion on the whole doesn't encourage. God told me to do so etc, etc.

God is a chocolate tea pot circumnavigating the earth. It is dark and it is impossible to see against the black of the infinite beyond consisting of little between the specs of light that are the stars.
No one has seen it but it must be there so you cannot prove he isn't a chocolate teapot.

Right, why don't you eat a bowl or two of pasta tonight and a bowl of porage followed by some bananas in the morning and then go and pedal your bike and then tell us how you got on?

Well, I know we are talking about eating habits and should keep religion out of this, but I was only reiterating certain statements and shedding light on some misinformation by cooldad and other users on this thread and forum and providing further explanation. I was referring to my religious dietary habits earlier in the thread which I kinda wanted an opinion on but it's just got out of control. But I just want to say on the last note you made, the final prophet would stand up in prayer 2/3 of the night and sleep approx 1-2 hour and then get up for prayer again and pray the pre-dawn prayer before sunrise and the 4 daily prayers, fight battles with the non-believers and help the poor and the needy. He was the strongest of men yet he was not stocky, was average height and had a flat stomach, but he said in a saying of his, "the strongest of you is not the one who can defeat another, but one who can control himself when he is angry." His diet was unique and pretty simple, sometimes he would have no food in his house and this would make him appreciate god more and his body more. Look at us now in the west compared to those in the east and in under developed countries, we are fat, they are thin. So somewhere it's obvious that we have to have a balance with food and how much we eat and it's not just down to how much exercise we do but how much we consume. There must have been a reason why they ate 1 meal a day and some reasons are because they were poor, and sometimes because they were testing themselves in worship and for strength and many other reasons.

I'm kinda happy with my diet, I believe it can be improved dramatically but I just don't know how. I'd love to restrict the not so good or nutritional food I eat and eat foods which heal, and not which harm like factory farmed foods, packaged goods, chemically sprayed etc.

I am kinda confused by all this 72 virgin crap if I'm honest, if your all god fearing and have to be a certain way e.g no fornication no this no that BUT when you die you get to shag the shit out of 72 virgins?

    WTF double standards or what?

    I just don't get it!

I went to the Maldives a few years back and as you do went on a trip to a local island, the guide went into great detail that as their religion didn't allow them to pour or drink alcohol they chewed on a local nut that gave them the same effects! another prime example of double standards, they wont drink lager but will quite happily get off their tits on some mind bending drugs!

pah its all a way to control people, I am a Christian (not practicing) but personally believe that if your respectable, show respect and are kind / polite / honest then that's all that's needed, not some book !

  • God is omnipotent but he's not very even handed. I had a cold the other week but hadnt done anything remotely bad but one of my colleagues at work refuses to do his share of the filing but he was fine.

It's sh*t like this that makes me atheist I tell you.

Aside from all this crap, someone told me that Easter is the best time to ski at Whistler, whats your opinion Paul?

I might try a cheeky few weeks this season.

Apologies - I only look on here when I am at work so hadn't seen this HD - Easter isn't a bad time - snow is often good and later in the season is quieter. I'd probably avoid the actual holiday period but a couple of weeks at the start of March should (I offer no guarantees) be good. If you need school hols and cant avoid the holiday then late March can certainly offer up some good stuff. If you fancy booking at the Whistler Village Inns and Suites where I work, drop me a PM and I will try and get you a good rate!

Thanks Paul, it's just a thought at the moment as I've already got two holidays booked for this season!

Where is the science?

If you believe this is science you need to go to a library and read some better books.

Yh well it's dangerous on a night, lots of dangerous people about, can't trust no strangers after dark. Otherwise, it's pouring with rain down my side at the moment, doesn't look like cycling weather unless you're well zipped up in rain gear top to bottom then it's worth riding.

I was just wondering, cooldad suggested some lights for me on ebay which I purchased for £9.95. However I want another one for the front as I believe it's not enough with one light to be seen with and having 2 of them might be adequate. They are really small lights I'm not sure if any of you have them? but I think I could do with another set for my bike. I might purchase another set this afternoon for back and front for the same above mentioned price. What do you think, having 2 sets on a bike better than 1?

However cooldad suggested a cree light which I don't have a clue about and as there are so many, not sure which one to buy. If any of you could help me decide which light to buy for a dark night or for riding in areas with no pavement or road lights, would be great. I won't be using a cree light for my local rides because some paths are well lit up and some aren't, just if I have to go on the canal or if I go further out in my area then will want to use one.

I haven't ridden for a couple of days now because of bad weather but will be making an effort soon as weather improves. As you can understand I'm trying to get in to riding but don't want to do too much too soon and it's not a nice feeling doing too much, can cause fatigue a lot for me especially during evenings.

I'm just at work, had some breakfast this morning, a small breakfast and got a bottle of Ribena with me and having a meal later at 6pm. I know some of you probs thinking I'm not eating right, truth is, I'm going to have to see a nutritionist or someone who is educated and well versed in religious dietary laws or someone who knows bit of both worlds. But everyone who I've sought diet advice in the past where they've told me to eat 4-5 meals a day including doctors, are all fat or appear fat. I don't understand. Are they doing something wrong.

    Please advise, thanks.
  • You are a very troubled specimen.

More lights won't protect you from the murderers though...

Why do you want more lights if you're not going to ride at night?
