The organisers, including the French team, knew what it was going to be like on the hills. If they had any fears then they should have put barriers up.

Wonder how today's stage will impact tomorrows, if it will. I know the TourMakers get briefed the morning of the stage, so they might be more hardass tomorrow with keeping the crows back (along with the support of 'safety stewards' who are effectively security guards). Barely saw any along the route, except for the flag marshals.

Too many people in this country. Most densely populated in europe no doubt.

Don't know what the fuss is about. No major incidents as a result of the crowds. Big crowd has got to be better than a small one.

Oh dear Cav. What were you thinking?

At the back of my mind I was thinking Cancellara might have a go on that ramp today. Awesome rider.
I had wildcard bets on the stage win for today being 2seconds or more and for Spartacus to win. I was getting very excited.

Slowed it down frame by frame and here's where Cav starts the lean on Gerrans who hasn't moved in on him and is just cycling straight at this point:

Kittel - I hope that Cav makes a recovery and that he is ready for me to beat him tomorrow...

No. That's Malta followed by the Netherlands.

Rich looks like you go that info wrong - Talansky came in about 4mins back but gets 0:00 which means he was held up by the crash. Unless I am misinterpreting the results sheet.

It was right at the time of writing. I only have the information from the Tour website.

Still, taking four minutes to cross the line can't be a good sign.

Possible that he finished on someone else's bike?

Not quite sure how you would be held up by four minutes in that crash? Cavendish was probably less than that!

According to current wiki stats yes but other stats have it over 400 with 500 predicted in 2050. Malta doesnt count.

Must have been another incident in last 3km. Surely Garmin would have dropped back otherwise.

Why doesn't Malta count? It is a country in Europe.

Maybe he has spare bike & no timer chip and his damaged one is back on team car at the back?
