Bit of a step down from world to pro conti - not guaranteed races - although always the Tour!

Not necessarily...as PC he will increase their probability of getting top races and be guaranteed leadership in them which may be better than a guarantee of big races as WT but no guarantee of a ride in them.

They were making noises about wanting to step up to WT, and I imagine they'll get their pick of the French races with him on board anyway. Especially if he's wearing the national champs jersey.

Probably the only French team that could afford him and his leadout, though truth be told I would have liked to know who the foreign team he was speaking to were.

“Let’s say that I’m 95% likely to leave the FDJ.fr team at the end of the year. We’ll know more next week. I still have a choice between Cofidis and a foreign team. I’ll decide quite soon but the legal date [to announce a transfer] is still August 1,” Bouhanni said afterwards, according to L’Équipe.

Bouhanni’s trainer Jacques Decrion, told L’Équipe that the sprinter would sign for Cofidis, and the newspaper reports that Geoffrey Soupe will also make the move, although Bouhanni’s lead-out man Sébastien Chavanel will stay put at FDJ.

Stefan Küng to BMC from the development team.

"Brad and I have had a couple of friendly chats," Vaughters told Cyclingnews.

"They were nice conversations but I have to stress that Sky have the first priority in this matter and we can't negotiate or sign contracts until the UCI's transfer window opens on August 1 and we're going to follow the rules strictly."

Indeed that was pretty funny although he did ride for a decent length of time without that trio being able to pull him back.

It looks like Sagan was too busy checking Facebook on his i-phone.

Payback time. He'll get him in and say 'of course you can have time off to ride the Olympics' then just before the Olympics he'll say 'no, we only said you could ride if your form was good and we've decided it isn't - after all you didn't finish your national road race champs'

Quality second tier sprinter (1st tier being Cav, Kittel and Greipel). Requires an area of 5-6 feet either side of him to perform effectively. Would do a job at a number of other teams if supported correctly.

Let's not forget that this new batch of French sprinters are still very young. Bouhanni is 23. Demare and Coquard are only 22.

I wouldn't say he's a different level to those sprinters you mentioned. Those are the big fast boys but they're all absolute pure sprinters. Kittel for instance weighs 20kg more than Bouhanni. Yes Kittel wins in a man on man drag race most times but that doesn't really make him a better sprinter.

Well it does actually. The whole point of a sprinter being to win :P

Yes, because they would win a sprinters stage, whereas Sagan & Gilbert would win a tough sprinters stage.

Sagan & Gilbert would never win on the Champs for example

Bouhanni is one of the best sprinters already with plenty of time to improve. He was head and shoulders above the others at the Giro this year.

Sagan could win, but not in a straight drag race. He'd need some good luck.
