How long are rider's contracts usually for then? I was surprised to see Rui Costa is out of contract and the end of this season. Hopefully no-one has burnt their bridges yet!

No, 2-3 year contracts more common. Lampre offered Costa a multi-year contract, but he chose to sign for just 1 year - either because he didn't want to commit for too long a period before checking out the team set-up, or perhaps he thought he could get a more lucrative contract with another team if things were more stable with teams this year. Or perhaps he was cautious given a certain legal case hitting Lampre towards the end of this year.
Could basso really do that good a job for the next couple of seasons? Seemed to tail off relatively quickly on bigger climbs recently.
Definately could.
He showed zero form before the Giro and wasn't that terrible all things considered. He's also had the pox that is Sebastian Weber ruining his training this year.
I suspect Basso would be good at putting down a brutal pace for a number of KM's and then swinging off.
Hot on the heels of his EBH to BMC scoop, Richard Moore on the Cycling Podcast announced Geraint Thomas' departure to no fixed abode as yet:~20 mins in.

Aru rumored to Sky or BMC but agent said he is contracted and has no offers (I highly doubt he would move).
Geraint to leave Sky (cant meet wag demands)

He should get a good increase if he went to a 'classics' team and focused just on that...would love it if he did but wouldnt mind if he stayed at sky to do it...may even be better for the fans.

G said named the teams that might interest him in a recent interview (CycleSport or Procyling) - Garmin, BMC, OGE...
Think his preference is an English-speaking team
Not sure Garmin would have the cash to splash. BMC is very international and OGE is based too much in Aus. BMC should fire Hushovd and use the money for G.

Lotto is a rubbish team.
I thought OGE had a whole Italian base thing going...

Basso to Tinkoff is funny.
It' s not really - Contador said a few years ago he'd like to have Basso on his team as mountain helper
A few years ago he might have been some help

He's a busted flush and should concentrate on his blueberry farm.
This.
Evans wont go as he has some kind of personal relationship with Andy Rihs. Porte might though, in 2016, when his current contract with Sky is up.
EDIT
Talking of Evans and OGE, he reckons they've got a future GC contender in Simon Yates

+1 Team claiming they have no power to muzzle Michelle on Twitter.
Thank you FF, this really has made my morning...
all contract negotiations should include wag demands
