I wonder if Contador will be happy with his current 36sec gap going into the 26km TT. I suspect Valverde will go all out today and Contador will be there but very few others. This would be ideal as Contador could gain more of a buffer. I suspect his buffer is enough vs all the other riders but it would be better to have it closer to a minute. Kwaitek at 41 secs is also a potential danger especially as he is better than Contador in the TT.

Contador's lead is down to +12s.

Looking at his rivals, Kwiatowski would definitely seem to be the biggest threat given he's the best TTer in that top 10. But 41s is a big ask. C'mon Kwiatowski!

I'm struggling. I expected him to make more of an impact in his home race.

Racing has been excellent this year.
Big difference between some monsters blowing 95% of the peloton away until the last 1-3km and a team riding on the front controlling the pace.

OPQS just need a GC contender and they would be the perfect team.

Kwiatek and Uran are pretty good in that regard.

Sorry meant to add to Peraud (who is a good TT rider). I'd say he would have difficulty taking back the time tomorrow though.

Racing has been excellent this year.

    Classics have (as always).

The few stage races so far have been absolutely dreadful.

Big stage. Alberto's TA TT was similar to his dismal 2012 efforts (+20s Kwiato over 9.5km). But he had a healthy margin on GC so no need to test himself. A decent showing today will do nothing for the gastric distress evacuating the death star.

As a big promoter of lumpy Tour stages, I'm surprised you didn't enjoy P-N more. I thought it was great.

I normally am but ASO got that one completely wrong. The stages were insignificant and the fact that only seconds devided the winner from the rest doesn't necessarily suggest an exciting race - it wasn't. It was a 2km race every day with some weird route designs filled with some soft hills that didn't leave anything for the riders to act on.

Also, it wasn't helped by a poor show up from quality riders. (the route design was partly to blame for this as well)

This. I thought I was the only one to be a bit underwhelmed by PN but at least ThomThom is on my side.

  • Poor Costa, any break he tries to get in is pulled back even after he tanked a bunch of time yesterday.

Some quality in the break that did manage to get free though.

    Kidnap him?
  • How long till Kirby mentions Cunego having a pop on the final descent today? =D

Today's Thai commentator sounds like he is reading the shipping forecast (in Thai obviously).

The usual guy is pretty good even though my Thai isn't good enough to follow most of what he is on about. He's not afraid to shut up and let the pictures speak for themselves. Unfortunately, they have the Eurosport commentary audible in the background.

Bruno Thibaut apparently is a great hope for France.

Did they just refer to 'young' J-C Peraud?

It really would be lovely to just hear the Matt Stephens parts. It annoys me just how much Kirby annoys me.

40ks, 40secs. Movistar have turned up the pace. Valverde is for sure going to attack.

Come on... Kirby saying Kwiato is not as good in TTs as Valverde and Contador...

I really like Kirby, he is entertaining and happy!

On another note Bertie has to go for it today unless he thinks his TT has improved, which hasn't been the case so far this year. Still think that Kwia is in with a good shout if he doesn't lose anything today.

Mollema, Jungels and Wellens are now ahead. Movistar still pulling.

  • Looks like Bertie is down to only 1 rider in support?

OPQS trying to push now too.

Pretty sure Swift is still in the front group. Gotta think there'll be too many attacks coming up for him to stay in touch though.

    could have been Zandio.

Jungels caught by the other two. Movistar still drilling as hard as they can. Gap at 18secs.

This is pretty shi t so far. There should be some real hills in this race not 5-6% climbs that can be powered over, its Basuqe region after all.
