All British and Irish riders should also have their names pronounced correctly according to their regional accent.

I've said several times before, Qhubeka should be said with click sound. #BlackNamesMatter. I look forward to the Worlds in Rwanda and Rob Hatch sounding like Don Cheadle.
I don't think anyone minds if people give it a go and can't get it right. Not all the sounds in your range can cover all the names in the world.

It's more, objecting to people who *do* pronounce it correctly.

I can't do it, I watched the video with them explaining how it's done but when I try I just make a click sound then say Qhubeka... The click should be combined with the Qh part.
  • He's off the CRO Race coverage. Can only mean one thing, he is resting up for Paris Roubaix.
  • Correct,

You'll be looking forward to Pariss Roobakes later this week then? And the Gyro of Italy next May?
    The Gyros of the Ities.

They've given him the Madison to do, that's just trolling!
  • He's was at it again yesterday. Fillipo Ganna could ride for Ireland with a name like Fillip O Ganna. He spent the next 5 km laughing at his comment and sadly he drags the co commentators down to his level.

He was at it yesterday, insistent that Cavendish was bluffing as he dropped out of the bunch on a climb, shaking his head. Got corrected by McEwen but still tried to make out that the bunch was riding hard specifically to keep Cav at bay..

No matter how much cr*p Carlton has spouted over the years. It doesn’t compare to Rob Hatch’s continually reference to Sean Kelly as Mr Paris Nice in every sentence.

Sorry but, guess who Rob Hatch learned the moniker from in the first place?..............

I'm liking the combo of Jose Been and Magnus Backstedt. Jose seems to have upped her style, much more relaxed than I remember from previous years, and the pair being former pros know stuff. And no 'kin Kirby style pointless wittering.

I’m pretty certain Jose Been has never been a pro. Or raced at all

    You are right.
She said today she’s only followed the sport for a period of years.(which I missed) She started the way most do, by becoming a 3 week fan, but only took an interest in the classics after Terpstra won Roubaix in 2014.

Ah, mea culpa. Where did I get that misunderstanding from? Confusing her with ANO commentator? Anyways, still like the combo.

Jose even pronounced Dublin with an Irish accent the other day. But I prefer listening to Magnus and her too. Hatch seems to be getting worse, yes Hatch seems to be getting worse.

    Love Rich's parody post.

I think we have it pretty good in the English speaking cycling world.
If you disagree, just watch the series of Belgian Ron Managers on the Ronde documentaries.

    What makes you say that?

It might be just the snippets we see in the documentaries but Hatch seems to ask questions whereas the Belgians seem constantly surprised at what they're seeing.
Hayles can crack me up with a single mutter too.

I think what Rick means, but isn't saying, is that both he and I (others too) have spent many years watching races on Sporza and think their coverage second to none. A primary factor being their informative and measured commentary.
Now, unlike Rick, I only understand Flemish in terms of cycling terminology, but I can glean more listening to them, than I ever could from Carlton Kirby.
I guess the bottom line for us is that he doesn't actually provide individual race commentary, but more a generic narration, loosely based upon a bike race.

I would agree that in recent times, (with the advent of GCN) things have measurably improved with the addition of recently retired riders.

As I've said earlier I don't mind CK that much, guess I can zone out from him.

Special mention to Robbie McEwen though, he is a very good addition to the team IMHO.

Tbh, he isn't any better or worse than what we're lumped with for other sports on ITV so I presume we have to grin/grimace and kick with it?

On the Hatch note; he said in Omloop (IIRC) when some chasers were 30 seconds down "they're riding for their lives!".

Kirby's giggling at his own jokes is just about bearable but Hatch attempts to make everything epic just grates.
I do like McEwans' contribution and I quite like Dan and Adrian Blythe.
    Kelly has improved no end.

Kelly winds me up. just drawlingly dull, like a old bloke propping up the bar down the pub.

an old bloke who has been there, seen it and got the t-shirt. He’s speaking, with a broad accent, from personal experience.

doesn't stop him being boring as though.

its the droney monotone voice, not the knowledge/experience.

Not heard Adrian Blythe's commentary but Adam Blythe is very good (although the diamonds in the legs thing is getting tired now).
