Its too long to post in a post on the forum so hopefully its cool to link to it.
I will expect a PM from the mods if its not.
Hurry up and read before "its last orders at the bar for bidons"...1 -
Excellent, though I spell it "Gnarly".0
-
Everyone who thinks the job is talking non stop for the whole duration of the race should watch some test cricket.0
-
Does anyone know what languages he speaks? When he does the voice over translations is that him doing it on the fly or reading from an existing translation?0

As to why he gets the most stick of all cycling commentators, I think its mainly because he is different and that comes through clearly in the book.
Is the criticism fair? I think its not.

Great review imho, very well balanced, and convinces me to steer a WIDE path.
This made me chuckle.
"I wouldn’t say that the book hangs together and grips you, its very much a pick up and put down piece designed to make you chuckle and read bits back out loud to your partner. She hated me doing that though and prefers Rob Hatch."

The replies make me think that there are two Carlton Kirby's and I am listening to the wrong one.shirley_basso said:

I guess if you follow him on Twitter you're more likely to like him. I can understand people who have maybe just started watching cycling or who just watch casually liking his style maybe but when you actually what to know what is going on and not hear the same tired anecdotes you get past that.blazing_saddles said:

This is my favourite reply to it:

There are definitely two types of fan. Those who probably just watch Le Tour and are casual cycling fans. And those who tune into races all year round and who ride/race bikes. Its the former who staunchly support him.Pross said:

There is an in-between: I tune into races all year round and have never raced, and have hardly ridden a bike in 20 years. I don't pretend that he gets everything right and can see why people find him annoying, but I can't find it in myself to get that wound up about him.abedfo88 said:
