The 70s has called and asked for its sexism back...

Orla's a good presenter, passionate and knows what she's talking about. And for what it's worth I disagree on the good-looking bit, but that's neither here nor there.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

She's such a good presenter isn't she - I recall when I didn't know who she was at all, not that long back now, as I think she is/was on sky, something which I have never subscribed too.

But her knowledge, and passion for the sport are clear to see - and she doesn't ask the dumbed down questions of the like that Clare balding has to - that is one female presenter I do not like.

If you follow her on Instagram it really comes across how much she loves the job.

I think she is better on the cycling than she was on the Olympics - not that she was poor but I really like her when she's working on cycling. As for whether she's good looking - some of you must have high standards agree it's not really relevant .

I didn't see any of her Olympics coverage.

I do agree she is good looking, and I'm sure plenty of people would say the same of the Blythester.

Doesn't matter to me either way I hasten to add.

Hate to say it, but I'm missing CK on the Le Mans coverage this year. It's not the same without his clubable - in both senses - bonhomie.

It's also downright weird when a car gets utterly t-boned whilst parked sideways across the track, and the only reaction is "oh, that's odd". Pretty sure Kirby would have said something more appropriate, or at least used the sort of volume, for the situation at hand.

Damn I missed the race 😒

Tour of Norway - Been pulling a blinder talking about Hayter heading GC and having never been in this situation before.
Stephens or Backstedt (I forget which) reminded her that Hayter had been leading the volta ao algarve only back in May, and had been in exactly that position :D

    :o

Love these in the amazon write up:

"Carlton's commentary never fails to bring a bike race to life, he has to be the Dalai Lama of all TV commentators ― Mick Bennett, Tour of Britain Race Director

There's never a dull moment working with Carlton... I do try to keep him under control ― Joanna Rowsell-Shand MBE, Double Olympic Team Pursuit Gold Medallist and multiple World Champion

Carlton's style often borders on controlled madness... sometimes without the control ― Brian Smith - commentator, team manager and British Road Race Champion 1991 & 1994

I've heard all these stories before, but it was great to read them in silence... ― Dan Lloyd, GCN presenter and winner of the 2008 Vuelta Extremadura

Get that bloody [Carlton] Kirby down here - I'd like to give him a good slap -- Mark Cavendish

[Carlton Kirby] You make it sound like I'm not paying attention -- Chris Froome"

It has excellent overall reviews, but these few caught my eye!

    Could be a gnarly read.

I love Smith and Lloyd's comments. I wonder if it is banter or their actual thoughts masquerading as banter. The two one star reviews made me chuckle too.

Quite. But any valid criticism of her professional ability is perceived (by her) as a massive attack on her person / size / personality and will lead to more 'woe is me, why does everyone hate me' moans on twitter.

It's great and right that GCN / Eurosport are trying to give more female presenters / commentators a platform.
It's not great and does good female presenters / commentators a disservice when the one they keep using is s41t3. Rowsell is great on the track stuff - she might not have raced that much road, but would be worth a go.
  • Of all his phrases, CK's continual use of 'playing with' and 'conjuring with' really sets my teeth on edge

Makes it sound like they're just skipping up HC climbs on a club ride
  • It was his Haribo related annecdote the other day that made me do it.

Maybe if enough people buy his book he'll be able to retire early. I'll order my copy now.

At least today he's on with Lloyd who has a lot to contribute and makes sure he gets a word in, which cuts into Kirby's verbal diarrhoea somewhat.

You get the feeling Kelly has been beaten into submission when he can hardly get a word in edgeways.

Rowsell has potential imho, but she tends to come across, or did, as a little bit wooden, although I think that may have been nerves, and she has definitely improved.

Manon Lloyd I would like to see given an opportunity, she has a very easygoing style which I think could work well, and I have a long held belief that Lizzie D would make an inciteful commentator, should she want to when she retires.
Dani Rowe possibly as well, I know she has commentated on some road racing iirc.
Emma Pooley would have been good as well I think, but she's off doing loads of other things now.

Orla is great IMO. For the reasons expressed above and elsewhere.

I don't think I've heard Been enough really.

Manon might be good as a commentator, hasn't she done some studio stuff?

I find her a bit forced on the scripted GCN stuff, but that is mostly quite daft so I imagine it being quite hard to do.

I think Carlton Kirby is a good cycling commentator. You try talking about a bike race for 3 to 4 hours and see how you find it.

I could do a better job

He had a good time today repeating how FJ got on the radio to say he didn’t have the legs today and instruct his team mates to take the win for him.

Turns out he had a flat tyre.

Just had the stage playing through on catch up. FFS CK stop with the roundabout fixation. They're corners or bends.
